Condições sanitárias das águas de irrigação de hortas do município de São Paulo: I. Determinação da intensidade de poluição fecal através NMP de coliformes e de E. coli

Samples of irrigation water taken from eleven vegetable gardens of the city of São Paulo were submitted to bacteriological examination. Five samples were taken from five different points in each case; MPN per 100 ml were determined both for coliforms and Escherichia coli. All samples revealed heavy fecal polution, showing completely unsatisfactory sanitary conditions of the irrigation water and the need severe control measures of water for irrigation.
