Physiological characteristics of grape-vine rootstock in saline solution

In order to evaluate the tolerance to salinity, an experiment was carried out in a greenhouse with five grape-vine rootstocks ('IAC 766 Campinas', 'IAC 313 Tropical' , 'IAC 572' Jales', '420-A' and ' Ripária do Traviú'), grown in nutritent solutions with five NaCl levels (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mmol L-1). The photosynthetic rate, stomatic conductance, transpiration rate, plant height and dry matter weight were determined. Plant height and dry matter weight were affected by increasing salinity levels. The more tolerant rootstocks ('IAC 572', 'IAC 766' and 'Ripária do Traviú') presented net photosynthesis of 0.75 mumol m-2 s-1, even at greater NaCl concentrations, also maintaining their stomatic aperture and transpiration rate.
