Care practices and homeless population: the street clinic case

The study aims to understand the care practices of the Consultório na Rua (street clinic) in Manguinhos/RJ in order to contribute to the debate of the Primary Health Care focused on specific vulnerable populations. This case study used as methodological procedures: documental analysis, direct observation, interviews with professionals and the representative of the social movement. The results point to the construction of bonds and the break with a prescriptive logic prevailing qualified listening. Professionals reported there were still resistance regarding health and social care towards homeless people, commonly associated with stigmatizing images that express one of the challenges in ensuring access of this population to the public health system.
