Implementation level assessment of integrative and complementary practices in Primary Health Care in Santa Catarina, Brazil

ABSTRACT

This research developed and applied and assessment model of implementation levels as for the Integrative and Complementary Practices (PIC) in Primary Care in the municipalities of the State of Santa Catarina by means of data provided by the second phase of National Program for Access and Quality Improvement in Primary Care - PMAQ-AB's database. The empirical application of the model demonstrated to be feasible in the 293 municipalities of Santa Catarina since it was able to classify them as to levels of implementation: 35 municipalities (11.9%) revealed incipient level of implementation; 46 (15.7%) had partially implemented; 50 (17.1%) had fully implemented; and 162 (55.3%) municipalities did not deploy the service. The model here designed is adequate to evaluate the implementation of the PIC in other Brazilian states.
