Abstract

In order to understand the relationships between goals considered irreconcilable by professionals that works in the juvenile detention system, this article will analyze the discussions about falta de fechamento, a category mobilized by juvenile detention officers to indicate the disjunction and mistrust between different professional groups. From diverse research experiences, it will be possible to observe that the conflicts around falta de fechamento reveal an organizational context in which each group can do the work as it sees fit without being accountable to each other, which allows those who act in a manner dissociated from official discourses not always to be held accountable for it. This context helps to understand the daily production of the centrality given to security procedures in the juvenile detention system, since the educational activities are only implemented when they do not conflict with the objectives of control and discipline or on occasions when the institution tries to make some symbolic profit from the educational perspective
