The way in which the metal is transferred from the electrode tip to the weld pool affects the MIG/MAG process productivity and stability, as well as the weld bead geometrical characteristics. Among the modes of metal transfer, a very important parameter to know is the value of globular-spray transition current, which occurs in a narrow band of current and changes considerably the frequency and diameter of the transferred drops, therefore, the process stability. The transition current was experimentally investigated using techniques of at high speed video camera associated with a new proposed methodology for transition current identification applied to binary and ternary mixtures of O2 and CO2 the basis of Ar.
