Environmental vulnerability analysis of an urban forest fragment in Amazon: Sumaúma State Park

Since the creation of the Free Economic Zone and Industrial District of Manaus, the landscape has been changed due to urban growth. This process contributes to the reduction of forest cover and the establishment of forest fragments. In this paper, we analyzed the environmental vulnerability of the Sumaúma State Park, Manaus/AM, one of the few protected forest fragments in the town. The conservation unit is inserted in the most populous district of Manaus. The land use and land cover of the Park and its surroundings (300 m) were mapped by the analysis of QuickBird satellite data. The trails and roads were mapped using GPS and the slope was derived from a Digital Elevation Model. For data integration, the decision AHP support technique was applied. The greatest environmental vulnerability problems in the conservation unit are located throughout its perimeter, in the boundary with the urban area and in the trails of the Park.
