Politics of the living

Abstract

In his essay, Achille Mbembe discusses how the politics of enmity has become the most sophisticated version of the exercise of power and domination generated by the modern Western project, exacerbated in new technologies of war, digital fragmentation of contemporary extractivisms, dehumanization in favor of the instrumentalization of all relationships, genocides and racial and ethnic hostilities, and devastation of the world – a-historical process that has been imposed on a global scale through colonialism and racism, disguised under the narrative of Enlightenment humanism. In the wake of thinkers such as Édouard Glissant and Frantz Fanon, as well as in the depths of the critical history of modernity, Mbembe proposes a thought of the whole-world, a politics of the living that reorganizes relations around the in-common.
