Detection, transmission and pathogenicity of fungi on seeds of Parapiptadenia rigida ("angico-vermelho")

"Angico-vermelho" (Parapiptadenia rigida (Benth.) Brenan) is a native species of great ecological and economic importance for the recovery of degraded areas. This study evaluated the incidence, the transmission and the pathogenicity of fungi associated with "angico-vermelho" seeds from different provenances of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Thus, we used three samples of seeds, with which germination and sanity tests were carried out by adopting the methods of filter paper (FP), plating on potato dextrose agar (PDA), transmission and pathogenicity of fungi. Germination of "angico-vermelho" seeds ranged from 63-91%. The fungi considered potentially pathogenic and found associated with "angico-vermelho" seeds were: Alternaria sp.; Botrytis sp.; Fusarium sp.; Cladosporium sp. and Pestalotia sp.. Fusarium sp. was detected in all samples according to the FP method and was transmitted via seed, causing root system and cotyledon malformation and pre-emergence damping off. Its pathogenicity was confirmed.
