Open-access DUAL GRADUATION DIPLOMA IN NURSING, SANTA CATARINA, BRAZIL AND COIMBRA, PORTUGAL

    The Nursing Undergraduate Course of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in its fifty years of existence has expanded and sought innovation with national and international cooperation.1 This time, the partnership takes place with the Nursing School of Coimbra (ESEnfC), with the purpose of deploy in the Dual Diploma Program for the Undergraduate Nursing Course.2-5 What is it? Mainly to build an opportunity for preparing nursing leaders for a global world of work, while at the same time complying with social responsibility on public policies, especially in health and education.

    In the context of Brazilian nursing, the Dual Diploma Program (UFSC/ESEnfC) is a pioneer because it is the first Nursing Undergraduate Course that implemented this program and, for that, previously fulfilled all legal requirements.

    Thus, the graduate student in nursing at UFSC, with a good index of achievement, can simultaneously conquer two degrees - one at UFSC (Santa Catarina, Brazil) and the other at ESEnfC (Coimbra, Portugal). Two diplomas, one on the Latin American continent and the other on the European continent. Innovation because this program also results in multiple opportunities for insertion in research networks, construction of multicentric projects, production of science and technologies in the nursing area.

    Compliance with academic commitments by students is monitored through Skype® meetings between the students and the UFSC Course Coordination. There is also a meeting between the Coordination of the UFSC Course, the Coordinator of International Relations and President of the Technical-Scientific Council of ESEnfC, as well as with the guiding teachers of the course completion work.

    Learning is expanded as the social, political and educational context is diverse, which helps to stimulate students' ability to interact with representatives of institutions, teachers, nurses and other students. Thus, the questions multiply and the Brazilian students unveil the opportunities to learn more and better, value each one in due time. To be students in the city of Coimbra is to have a peculiar life dynamics, a mix between the scientific and technical requirements of nursing, allied to the cultural charms of university city par excellence.

    The Dual Diploma Program is an innovation because everyone learns and teaches because they are different and each one has a contribution to be in a network so that nursing is more and better in the global context.
