This qualitative study sought to develop a philosophical-conceptual reference basis with an educative and interdisciplinary focus, under a look of complexity to foster a responsible conscience in adopting attitudes to assure health promotion in preventing HIV infection. Aids epidemics is seen by us as a complex problem, where infection prevention action by HIV should involve all sectors of society and also the other disciplines besides those typical of health, so as to improve the population conditions of life and education, ensuring a healthy living. In that sense, we made an effort for a critical reflection and dialogue with the any social actors, including health professionals, member of the public and private institutions, organized civil society, persons who live with HIV/Aids and their family members, covering healthy living practices. We have conducted twenty-seven interviews with these socials actors, selected through pre-established criteria. To establish the number of subjects for the study made necessary to have a previous knowledge of the reality where we tried to label the relations/services network which contribute for the prevention of HIV/Aids transmission in our society. At this stage, we have identified the important subsystems/cells in the development of actions to promote health in regard to preventing the transmission of HIV/Aids, with the possible identification of developed projects and actions covering the interests of our research and involving the province of Santa Catarina. We have used an open-end questionnaire to conduct dialogues, such as: `being healthy' concept, health promotion, public policies turned to health, and Aids prevention; lived experiences of the subjects as to the theme, and possible proposition. Descriptive and interpretative analysis of data was employed. Identified logical units revealed the emergent categories contributing towards the proposed philosophical-conceptual reference basis, where we have approached the healthy living, the risk and the vulnerability in the context of Aids epidemics, the definition of public policies for a healthy living, the development of competences of health services, the building-up of networks and partnerships, education as a possibility to change and to develop competences, the singularity of subjects and, personal aptitude for a healthy living, as well as the search of the understanding of existing contradictions in society. The essential elements for success of HIV infection prevention actions were: access to education and information, availability of efficient social and health services; and an adequate social environment, appropriate to cut down barriers and promote changes which ask for involvement and participation of the various actors and sectors of society. Face to the complexity of the existing social reality, we came to the conclusion we should advance to an understanding of actions capable of once again renew the link between knowledge and action in the various sectors of society, above all the health one. Necessary knowledge to cope with this health problem, the Aids epidemics, is not yet ready and available, but rather in constant construction in this dynamic society in which we now live, asking for incessant actions.
