Nursing research groups in the area of newborns, children, and adolescents: profiles and trends

The purpose of this study is to identify nursing research groups in the area of newborns, children, and adolescents in the Research Group Directory in Brazil's National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico), and to analyze the main trends among research lines in these areas. This study involves documentary, descriptive, and exploratory research. Sixty-nine nursing research groups were identified, of which twelve were specifically for newborns, 13 related to children and adolescents, eight related to the child, and only one focused on the adolescent. The results show that the impact of the knowledge generated by nursing research in these areas is still a major challenge in articulating lines of research, knowledge production, and patient care practice, especially as regards their geographical distribution across regions of Brazil.
