The objective of this exploratory research with a qualitative approach was to deepen our knowledge concerning the nurse's insertion in an interdisciplinary team of the Psychosocial Care Center, considering that this insertion reflects upon the nurse's possibilities to care for patients. The data was collected from interviews carried out from December, 2004 to January, 2005, with three nurses and two coordinators of the Center. The research took place in one Psychosocial Center of Mental Health and two Psychosocial Centers for Users of Alcohol and Drugs. Two of these are located in the State of Rio de Janeiro and one in the State of São Paulo. The ethical and scientific requirements of Resolution 196/96 were followed. The analysis of data, according to the empirical schedule, showed the question of the required formation to work in these Centers, and the difficulties related to the changes that occur in the relationships between the members of an interdisciplinary team.
