This is a historical and social study concerning the Enfermagem em Novas Dimensões Jornaul, that was published and circulated throughout Brazil from 1975 to 1979. Purpose: to analyze the articles published in that magazine and to discuss their importance towards building a new knowledge basis on the theoretical concepts and methodology of nursing care. The study was conducted during the first half of 2010. The primary sources were the five volumes of the Enfermagem em Novas Dimensões Jornaul. The creation of this magazine was the result of Wanda de Aguiar Horta's personal commitment, its idealizer, creator, publisher and editor, who was supported by a small group of Nursing faculty at the University of São Paulo. The contribution of Enfermagem em Novas Dimensões Jornaul towards building new nursing knowledge is mainly due to Horta´s articles, which provided the basis for developing a Nursing theory and a methodology derived from it.
