The ethical dimension of work

The purpose of this article is to elucidate the values that philosophy has ascribed to work, unfold its different meanings in today's society, and ponder the ethical aspects of research as being expanded as a form of work. The text consists of five parts and a conclusion. The first part addresses the philosophical meaning of ethics, morale and values; in the second one the ethical nature of the research process is elucidated; the third looks at the understanding of work from a philosophical perspective; the fourth deals with the negative and positive notions in Marx's work; and lastly, the fifth part unfolds the appraisal of work in modern societies. The conclusion reflects upon nursing in the light of the abovementioned conceptual framework.
