The objective of this study was to identify in national literature the scientific production on humanization in primary health care, focusing on the principally outlined aspects. A bibliographical search was carried out in national periodicals, through the "Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences data base, and 31 papers were obtained and submitted to exploratory, selective, analytical and interpretative readings. The results evidenced that the focused inherent aspects of humanization were: proposals for humanization in health care, definition of the term, difficulties for implementing humanizing actions, and the evolution of health and humanization policies in Brazil. It is concluded that scientific production in the theme of humanization in primary health care is limited. Research in this area should be done in order to subsidize an evaluation, reorganization, and effective implementation of the National Policy of Humanization.
