This paper discusses the notion of truth which underlies the production of knowledge in the Humanities. It focuses on a comparison of the perspective of Mikhail Bakhtin and that of other researchers oriented by the Methodology of Qualitative Research and Cultural Studies. The approach suggests the axiological and epistemological dimensions of the investigative process as a contribution to the study of discursive practices in Applied Linguistics.
