THIS ARTICLE EVALUATES the conflicts related to the love and/or sexual relationship that took place in Rio de Janeiro city between 1890 and 1930. Based on the research of the passional crimes's trials, this study purposes an interpretation of the tensions between the dominant values and the cultural patterns of the gender relationship spread troughout the brazilian society at that time.
