Esporte, economia e política: o automobilismo em Angola (1957-1975)

ABSTRACT

This study aims to discuss the configuration of auto racing in Angola between 1957 (when the number of races started increasing) and 1975 (when the practice became extinct), seeking to understand its articulation with the political, economic and cultural aspects of the colony. To reach the goal, we have used newspapers and magazines as sources: Boletim Geral do Ultramar, Angola Desportiva and Revista de Automobilismo, Aviação e Turismo (ATCA). We argue that this research can enable us to understand Angola in its the last moments as a colony. In addition, we intend to take another step to understand the peculiarity of sports and amusements in colonial settings.
