This article focuses on the question of the relationship between historiography and the speculative philosophical approach. The text examined is Gregorio Piaia’s Il lavoro storico-filosofico. Questioni di metodo ed esiti didattici. We analyze the characteristics of different types of reconstruction of philosophy’s past, giving special importance to the concepts of “method” and “interpretezione.” In conclusion, it is argued that philosophical historiography and the speculative approach express opposing tendencies within the limits of the possibilities between extremes.
