This article deals with the political references present in a type of theater usually classified as "light", "pure entertainement theater", "commercial theater": Rio de Janeiro's musical theater from the end of the 19th to the first decades of the 20th Century. Through its revues and burlesques it exposed the problems and evils that affected the population of the Court and later the Federal Capital.
