Complaints of prisoners relatives: enunciation of suffering and claim for recognition

Abstract

The larger prison experience lived by prisoners families reveals the grip of prisons beyond their walls. The singular writings made by the relatives in the framework of a questionnaire distributed by an association/NGO allow to apprehend their operations of enunciation of the complaint towards prisons and to capture their experiences. What are the main difficulties revealed? How do they build their legitimacy to state what they denounce and seek? The complaints reflect the lived experience of denial that is akin to a non-recognition of oneself and its ordeals. The invocation of a juridical framework, of a common humanity and its sufferings is the force of arguments to claim recognition and granting of rights.
