ETIQUETTE: TWO MODELS ANALYZED FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF HOSPITALITY

ABSTRACT:

The purpose of this communication is to show that the notion of etiquette, analyzed from the perspective of hospitality, refers to two models of interpersonal contact: one based on identity expression, which is being together with other people, valuing genuine expression of hospitality itself, and another, here called social distinction, its opposite, which values opinion, distinguishing itself to show itself above others. Therefore, performs a comparative study of the concept of etiquette expressed in two books -Snobérrimo, by Marcelino de Carvalho and Na Sala com Danuza, by Danuza Leão. It is a qualitative research using the content analysis technique, understood as an investigation technique for the objective, systematic description, both qualitative and quantitative of the content of any form of communication. The categories chosen are the times of human hospitality - to receive and be received, to host and be hosted, to feed and be fed, to entertain and be entertained (Camargo, 2004) that intersect with expressions extracted from the texts denoting identity expression or social distinction.
