Indians and Blacks in the Backwoods of the Mines: Contacts and Identities

The paper looks for a rescue of the indigenous and quilombola occupation of the backwoods the mines in the second and third quarters of eighteenth century, with views to mapping of cultural encounters and intersections between the two collectives. Based in the anthropological perspective of the otherness is performed the analysis of historical documentation available for the current western Minas Gerais, Triângulo Mineiro e south of Goiás, allowing propose that cultures and collectives identity of “gentios” e “calhambolas” if they were reworking in the context of negotiations and conflicts between different historical subjects.
