Thinking the Latin American right-wing scientific object, actors and temporalities

At the beginning of the 21st century, when Latin America is mainly governed by the Left, it is increasingly frequent to find references to right-wing movements or parties in newspapers or scientific works, as if this categorization was an obvious fact and as if it was inherent to the modern political systems which have risen and gathered strength since the independence of Latin American countries. However there is nothing evident about it. Despite some praiseworthy monographic and comparative studies, the paucity of the existing bibliography can only be deplored. This paper will first give a review of the main historiografic questions on right-wing mouvements and parties in Latin America. It will then offer general considerations based on scientific litterature dealing with the French right-wing, with an aim of nourrishing the incipient reflection on its Latin American counterparts.
