From the port area to the port city: the ports in the Colombian Caribbean as multifunctional spaces in the Nineteenth century

In this article we study the problem of the significance of the port area and its impact on social and cultural setting of sea and river towns of the Colombian Caribbean that contained it. More than the port cities themselves, the focus of my musings is made up of small spaces in the historic centers of these were concentrated in the port work and other activities that influence the entire life of these populations. This space was vital to that for new activities, and urban population growth in the first half of the twentieth century were driven to the outskirts of cities and isolated from urban areas and other activities that had been confused during several centuries.
