Scope and policy
The journal Ciência Animal Brasileira/Brazilian Animal Science (CAB) publishes only complete and original scientific articles, reviews, short communication, technical notes and, exceptionally, case reports in the areas of veterinary medicine, animal science and related. One of the pillars of the CAB is to support research development by disseminating information and knowledge to the scientific community as well as to other professionals and non-professionals interested in these areas. Therefore, we encourage our authors to use clear, concise, and objective language in their writing. Open access The CAB meets the international efforts to democratize science by providing open access to scientific contents. All articles are made available free of charge and unlimited and can be copied and disseminated, as long as the original publication is properly credited or cited. The journal is not charging Article Processing Charge (APC). Pre-prints Paper submission to the CAB implies it has not been previously published or is being considered for publication in another scientific journal. However, papers sent to a recognized preprint server, such as bioRxiv and SciELO pre-prints, are not considered as prior publication. Thus, in line with open science policy and to speed up research dissemination, we strongly encourage authors to share their articles on a pre-print server. All authors must provide us with the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) of the pre-prints previously published in the repository of their choice. Data availability All data used in the article must be open and available to the public whenever requested. We encourage the authors to deposit their data in suitable repositories. Information on gene sequences must have its access number to the public bank mentioned in the paper (e.g., GeneBank). Language CAB publishes articles in a bilingual system (English and Portuguese). Authors can choose in which language the article is written and submitted. If accepted, the other linguistic version must be sent to the journal. Foreign authors may not be asked to provide a Portuguese version. Peer-review Process (Double-Blind) CAB uses a double-blind peer-review system, where the reviewers do not know the names or affiliations of the authors and the reviewer reports provided to authors are anonymous. The peer-review system is used to assess the quality of a manuscript before its publication. Reviewers assist editors in making editorial publication decisions, but the final decision is issued by the Editor-in-Chief. . Authors are given the chance to designate names to be considered by the Editor-in-chief as reviewers or opposed reviewers. Ethics in Animal Experimentation The work described in the submitted article must follow the ethical principles in animal experimentation in Law n° 11794/08, which establishes procedures for the scientific use of animals and requires submission of research projects to institutional research ethics committees. We suggest the authors consult the National Council for Animal Experimentation Control (CONCEA) and the Brazilian College of Animal Experimentation (COBEA). Publication Ethics All authors must ensure that the reported studies do not result from misconduct such as data fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism. In the case of confirmed misconduct, the journal will issue a retraction notice to correct the scientific record. All papers are submitted to a plagiarism detection software (iThenticate) to prevent misconduct and to ensure the originality of written work. According to the guidelines of the COPE (Committee on Ethics in Publications), which aims to encourage the identification of plagiarism, misconducts, frauds, possible ethics violations, and opening of processes, we ask the authors to access and read the information on the COPE’s website and in the guide to good practice of the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo – FAPESP (São Paulo State Research Foundation), Elsevier's publishing ethics guide and Elsevier's website. Copyright and licensing All articles in this journal are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License. It means the authors give full permission to anyone to share and adapt the content of their articles, as long as they and the original sources are properly cited. Digital Preservation Policy
The Brazilian Animal Science is hosted on the journals portal of the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), which guarantees the preservation of its digital content by the Brazilian Network of Digital Preservation Services (Rede Cariniana). As an initiative of the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT), the Cariniana Network is part of Stanford University's program - Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe (LOCKSS).

Form and preparation of manuscripts
In the submission process, authors should pay attention and consider all items listed in Submission. Submissions in disagreement with the guidelines will be rejected immediately. Statement of consent and authors' contributions: statement of consent is mandatory and must be attached at the time of submission. It should contain the names of all authors and the institutions they are affiliated with, besides a brief individual description of how each author participated in the research. "Author contributions” should not be presented in the body of the manuscript and will be added to the text if accepted for publication. See the model below:
MODEL OF STATEMENT OF CONSENT
To add each author's contribution, CAB adopt a taxonomy indicated by CRedit (Contributor Role Taxonomy) which includes 14 categories that are normally performed for academic scientific production, as follows:
Ethics Committee: It is mandatory to attach, at the time of submission, the approval certification by the Ethics Committee on Animal Use (CEUA) for research with animals and by the Human Research Ethics Committee (CEP) for research with questionnaires applied to people, as well as mentioning the protocol number in the body of the text. The article that needs the ethics committee approval certificate and does not present it will be rejected immediately. Detection of plagiarism: all papers submitted to the CAB are previously checked for plagiarism (iThenticate). The manuscripts that failed the testing will be thoroughly examined by the editorial team and, when applicable, additional information will be requested from the authors. If plagiarism is then confirmed, the paper will be summarily rejected.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAPER PREPARATION: Text: papers can be written in Portuguese or English. As the CAB adopts a bilingual publication model, authors must be aware of the need to send a copy in the other language, if approved for publication. For texts in Portuguese, linguistic proofreading will be done by the editorial team of the UFG Journal Portal. For English texts, translation and/or linguistic proofreading will be under the responsibility of the authors. A certification document issued by an authorized company shall be provided to the CAB. For foreign authors, native English speakers, such certification is dismissed. We suggest that authors to wait for acceptance of publication before starting proofreading/translation and presentation of the certificate. Authors: The name (s) of the author (s) and institutional affiliation must not appear in the text file sent for submission to ensure CAB confidentiality in the double-blind peer review. Number of pages: a maximum of 20 pages is suggested. Abstract: Paper texts must contain an abstract in English and another in Portuguese, with the same content, clear and concise. Abstracts should have a minimum of 180 and a maximum of 250 words. Keywords: minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 words, separated by semicolons. Terms must be presented in both English and Portuguese. It should be recalled that the words in the title should not be used. Figures, Graphs, and Tables: they must be necessarily inserted in the body of the text right after being mentioned. Do not insert at the end of the text. Ethics Committee: research approval protocol number by the Ethics Committee on Animal Use (CEUA) and/or by the Human Research Ethics Committee (CEP) must be contained in the body of the text (Material and Methods). It is appropriate to recall that the certificate of approval is mandatory and must be attached at the time of submission. Text structure:
For submissions in Portuguese:
For submissions in English: References and citation: The full list of references at the end of the paper must be under Vancouver Style. References must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the text. Accuracy and appropriateness of study references mentioned in the text are under the responsibility of the authors. In the text, the reference should be cited by the reference number placed within brackets and superscript numbers. The following are examples of references and direct and indirect citations: Examples of references:
Examples of citation: Reference citations along the text should be made numerically, in ascending order, within brackets and superscript numbers.
