Scope and Policy
Cerne is a journal edited by the Federal University of Lavras, Minas Gerais state, Brazil, which quarterly publishes original articles that represent relevant contribution to Forestry Science development (Forest ecology, Forest Management, Silviculture, Technology of Forest Products). Submitted manuscripts must be written in English, be original, and be in accordance with the journal's standards and not be submitted for publication elsewhere. Its content (data, ideas, opinions and concepts) is the sole responsibility of the author(s). When necessary, it must be attested that the research in question was approved by the Ethics and Biosafety Committee of the institution to which the author responsible for the manuscript submission is linked to. By submitting the article, the authors agree that the copyright of the same is automatically transferred to the Journal Cerne. Authors can use the article after publication, without the prior permission of Cerne, as long as publication credit is given to the Journal. In the process of publication, the submitted manuscript is evaluated preliminarily by the executive editor that checks whether it meets the scope of the magazine and follows the guidelines of the journal. In this pre-analysis, the manuscript may not be accepted for publication or be preliminarily accepted and forwarded to the analysis of the scientific editor. The scientific editor reviews the merit of the work, and if it is considered with potential to be published, it is sent to the evaluation of at least two reviewers (referees). Based on the reviewers’ advice, the scientific editor recommends or the manuscript acceptance to the editorial board. Finally, the editorial board decides whether or not the article should be published. |
Form and preparation of manuscripts
1) INITIAL CONSIDERATIONS 2) ATTACHING FILES The files that must be uploaded to our system are described below:
a) Author's affiliation b) Cover letter Write a letter to provide additional information on your paper to be reviewed and published. The maximum characters number allowed is 3,000. c) Original paper Please, check the Author’s Guideline in the next sections before submitting. This upload file section will receive your original manuscript. d) Potential of 5 Reviewers Suggestion Please suggest potential Reviewers for this submission. It is mandatory to submit the full contact details of four reviewers including email addresses. Two of the referees should preferably be from any one of the authors' country of residence. Referees should be from institutions other than those of the authors.
Information requested: a) full reviewer’s name; b) working e-mail address; c) scientific institutional or similar affiliation.
The manuscript should be presented in the following sequence: Highlights: Highlights are short topics with the most relevant findings from your research. The structure of this announcement should cover only core results or conclusions with maximum of 90 characters (including spaces) per highlight. Each manuscript submission must be accompanied by four highlights, included before the abstract section. Highlights will be displayed in your online paper.
Abstract: The text should be descriptive takes into account three sections: a) Background, b) Results, and c) Conclusion.They must be informative ONLY ENGLISH VERSION and a maximum of 250 words.
5) REFERENCES b) Two authors: Oliveira and Souza (2003) or (Oliveira and Souza, 2003) c) More than two authors: In case of more than two authors, only the last name of the first one is mentioned, followed by et al. (no italic): Rezende et al. (2002) or (Rezende et al., 2002) The references must be current and mainly from periodicals: at least 70% of the references must be 10 years old or newer and at least 70% must be from periodicals indexed on the database Scielo, ISI - Web of Knowledge or Scopus. They should be presented in the following way:

Review papers may have a more flexible structure, the sections material and methods, results and discussion and conclusions are not mandatory. Only Review papers must have numbered sections. The review phase is essential to guarantee the quality of every published paper. If your manuscript is returned after the reviewer’s suggestions stage, we request you to answer every question pointed. This new document should be attached with the name “answer to reviewers” in our system. The revised version of the manuscript should be prepared using another document with every change properly documented. Please, use red color font or the review option “Track Changes” to mark all changes in the text. Only for researches involving non-human animals or genetically modified organisms, the authors need to declare the ethical control information. This document should be attached in “other” file section. CERNE does not charge fees for publication, submission nor the manuscript evaluation.
