INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Scope and editorial policy

Educação e Pesquisa publishes reports of original research, both empirical and theoretical; integrative reviews and interpretations of educational research literature on both substantive and metholological issues; and critical analyses of pedagogical experiences.

The journal does not accept manuscripts that are under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors should observe the conditions and specifications for publishing set out bellow.

Preparation of originals

1. Manuscripts can be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, English or French and should be addressed to the address bellow.

2. Two copies of the manuscripts should be submitted for blind review. A separate sheet should be included containing: the complete title of the manuscript, the name of the author, short biographical note, institutional affiliation, the date the manuscript is submitted, address for correspondence, telephone number and/or email address. An address for correspondence from readers should also be supplied. The first page of the manuscript should omit the author's name and affiliation but should include the title of the manuscript and the date it is submitted. The subsequent pages may carry a short title at the top. Information in text or references that would identify the author should be deleted from the manuscript (e.g., text citations of "my previous work", especially when accompanied by a self-citation; a preponderance of the author's own work in the reference list). These may be reinserted in the final draft.

3. Manuscripts, which should not normally exceed 9,000 words, should be typed on one side of A4 she ets, upper and lower case double spaced in entirety, with 1-inch margins on all sides, in 12-point size. They should be accompanied by a separate sheet with an abstract of 200 to 250 words (emphasis on objectives, method and main conclusions of the work), followed by a list of three or four keywords. The use of first person language is not recommended. The editors suggest the use of subheads at reasonable intervals in the text.

4. The reference citation within the text should be written between inverted commas, followed by the author's surname, year of publication and page number of the quoted text, between brackets. When the name of the cited author is part of the sentence, only year of publication and the page number should be mentioned between brackets. If there is just a reference to the author (without a citation), his/her surname followed by the year of publication should appear between brackets. Examples:

..."Black culture has became class cultu re ...as two generations of whites have appropriated it, discovered its seductive forms of meaning for their own" (Gilroy,1990, p.273).

According to Gilroy, "Black culture has become class culture... " (1990, p.273).

In a popular textbook on ethnography, Hammersley and Atkinson (1983) outlined some...

5. Footnotes should be used only if strictly necessary to the understanding of the text. Footnotes of explicative character should be avoided. If footnotes are necessary they should be numbered consecutively throughout the text and the approximated total number of words specified on the title page.

6. The accuracy and completeness of all references are the responsibility of the author(s). A reference list should include only those references that are cited in the text, and they should follow the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT NBR-6023). Examples:
