Gestão & Produção is a journal published four times a year year (March, June, September and December) by the Departamento de Engenharia de Produção (DEP) of Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar).

The first issue of Gestão & Produção was published in April, 1994. Actually, G&P was result of experience of professors of DEP/UFSCar in editing, in the beginning, "Cadernos DEP" in the 1980s, followed by "Cadernos de Engenharia de Produção". The last three issues of "Cadernos de Engenharia de Produção" were a test previous to the launch of Gestão & Produção because most of the journal characteristics were already established, like regularity (three editions per year) and a "blind review" process for evaluating the manuscripts submitted. G&P has also inherited from "Cadernos de Engenharia de Produção" the annual publication of a special issue on a relevant topic of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management.

Gestão & Produção is devoted to publish of original works, as well as the results of studies and researches, in the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management field. According to the Associação Brasileira de Engenharia de Produção (ABEPRO), the main areas of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management are:

• Production and Operations Management;

• Economic Management;
• Ergonomics and Work Safety;
• Product Engineering;
• Operations Research;
• Strategy and Organizations;

• Industrial Engineering and Operations Management Teaching.

Since 1997, Gestão & Produção has published special issues on different topics of interest of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management community. Following is a list of the special issues already published:

The journal is directed to:

• professors, lecturers and researchers of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management field;

• practitioners who apply techniques and methods of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management in private (profit and non-profit) and public organizations; and
• other people interested in the journal.

The Brazilian Industrial Engineering and Operations Management academia has considered Gestão & Produção as a top journal in the field in Brazil.

The abbreviated title of the journal is Gest. Prod., which should be used in bibliographies, bibliographical references and strips.
