História (São Paulo) is one of the oldest academic periodicals published by UNESP, and also one of the oldest history magazines circulating in Brazil. The magazine emerged in 1982, after the merging of two periodicals in the field: Anais de História, published by the Assis School of Philosophy, Science and Language Arts, and Estudos Históricos, published by the Marília School of Philosophy, Science and Language Arts. The former circulated between 1969 and 1977, reaching 9 issues; and the latter, created in 1963, reached 16 issues before it was discontinued in 1977.

Starting in 1990, the magazine began being published by the two graduate history programs at UNESP, located in the cities of Franca and Assis. In 2006, after over a decade of experience, in order to optimize the magazine's work and reach a higher level of quality, the programs chose to terminate two other publications which until then had been maintained separately, namely the periodical Pós-História, belonging to the Graduate History Program in Assis, and Estudos de História, published by the Graduate History Program in Franca. Since 2007, the História (São Paulo) magazine thus became the official periodical of UNESP Graduate History Programs. Also since 2007, the magazine, which for some time had been included in several international indexes, began to circulate exclusively by digital media, which led to a significant expansion and diversification of its audience.

The magazine publishes at least two annual dossiers and is constantly receiving texts for its other sections. The title to be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references and bibliographical citations is História (São Paulo).

Currently, the Journal is rated by Capes as Qualis A1.

História (São Paulo) covers a wide range of focal topics, themes, spatial and temporal reference points in the field of History. In order to ensure the diversity of approaches, at least twice a year the magazine issues a themed report, flowing directly into articles on freely chosen subjects, interviews, critical comments from sources and documents and reviews. Its audience mostly consists of university students in the History and General Humanities areas. 

Received original articles must first meet the criteria laid out in the Form and Preparation of Manuscripts section below. Once these criteria are met, the originals are evaluated by ad hoc reviewers and analyzed by the Advisory Boards, obeying the double-blind peer review system.

Submission of an article is taken to imply that it is original and it has not previously been published and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.

Each author/co-author can only have one article being processed, from the beginning of the submission to the final publication. Besides, an interval of two years will be observed between the publication and the beginning of a new process of text submission.

The journal doesn't charge any fee to publish texts submitted to it by contributors.

The magazine publishes original works, by authors who have at least a doctor's degree, as articles, documents preceded by a critical introduction, critical reviews and interviews - exceptionally, in its section of summaries, the magazine accepts to evaluate contributions from authors who are in process of obtaining their doctor's degree. The works may be in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and Italian; those written in a foreign language must bring title, abstract, and keywords in Portuguese and English - respecting the same determinations as for those in Portuguese. Students / fellows who collaborate in the research on sources will not be considered co-authors, and they should be mentioned in a footnote, identifying the sponsoring agency and process number.

Contributions that do not follow the journal’s rules will be immediately returned for correction.

The texts (articles, documents, reviews and interviews) must include:

Title (in Portuguese, English and in the original language); Abstract (in Portuguese, English and in the original language); Keywords (in Portuguese, English and in the original language); References (at the end of the text); and Notes (if any) after the References.

Avoid any type of identification of the author in the writings, including any notes.

ARTICLES

The articles must have 15 to 30 pages, typed with 2.0 cm margins, Times New Roman 12 font, and a 1.5 line spacing (in general). Short direct quotes (up to 3 lines) must be placed in the body of the text, between only quotation marks (no italics). Long direct quotes (over three lines) must be indented in 4.0 cm, 11 font size, simple line spacing. For direct and indirect quotes, we use the author-date system. Example: (SILVA, 2004, p. 12). Notes placed after Bibliographic References must be explanatory only and reduced to only the information that is ESSENTIAL for the understanding of the text. The bibliographic references must contain ONLY the texts cited in the article, according to the following examples:

DOCUMENTS

The introductory review that precedes the document must not be longer than 07 pages typed according to the standards for articles, except for abstract and keywords. There are no limits for the extension of the document to be published, but the journal reserves itself the right of not publishing material that is too long.

The proposal must be accompanied by an authorization related to the copyrights (when applicable).

References and Notes follow the same rules of the Articles.

REVIEW

The reviews (between 3 to 8 pages) must present works published in Portuguese in the last two years, or in a foreign language in the last three years, in the field of History. They should contain a title in Portuguese and English, and present editorial data, the author’s education and his/her relation with the reviewed work, objectives and methodology, main points and conclusions. They should critically analyse the text, its impacts in historiography and how it enters the debates on the chosen subject. Reviews that simply present a summary of the work will not be accepted. Quotations from the reviewed work must present the exact page, and other quotations must follow Articles rules. The reviews should also contain the abstract/resumo and three keywords in Portuguese and English. The bibliography used must be presented at the end of the text.

Review authors should be aware of situations that could be considered a “conflict of interests”.

References and Notes follow the same rules that apply to Articles.

INTERVIEWS

The interviews should follow the answer-question structure, they must include an introduction and they cannot be longer than 10 pages. They do not have to present abstract and keywords.

Include the interviewee’s ORCID (when applicable).

The data and the concepts presented in the texts, as well as the accuracy of bibliographic references, are solely the responsibility of authors. It is the responsibility of the authors as well the correct spelling, the use of language and the translation into the foreign language the Abstract, the Title and the Keywords. We do not pay for the contributions, whose author’s rights are necessarily assigned to História (São Paulo) journal.
