Opinião Pública is a bi-annual publication of the Center for Studies on Public Opinion (CESOP) of the University fo Campinas, Brazil

Created in 1993, its main objective is to establish a specialized academic vehicle to publish articles about theory and methodology in the field of public opinion, political and social behavior, and midia studies. OPINIAO PÚBLICA also divulges national and international survey data on these research fields, wich are presented at the section TENDÊNCIAS.

Until 1999, Opinião Pública was a quadrimestral publication, and those volumes are organized in CD-Rom, that can be purchased at CESOP.

The idea of Opinião Pública as an instrument for strenghtening the field of behavior studies and methodology in social sciences is part of the academic project developed by CESOP.

To develop this project, CESOP has established a specialized structure to gather and organize survey data conducted by academic researchers and private enterprises. The most part of the Brazilian Survey Data Bank is composed by surveys conducted from 1985 on, but it also contains special collections of previous decades. At the end of 2002, the Data Bank had about 1.800 surveys.

CESOP is the Brazilian link to the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research of the University of Connecticut (USA) and provides access to its electronic survey data bank. CESOP is also na institutional member in the ICPSR-Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research of the University of Michigan(USA), and provides consulting services to the ICPSR Archives and Survey Data Collections.

In 2002/2003 Opinião Pública and the ABCP - Brazilian Political Science Association have an agreement to publish two issues of OP jointly.

Positions and concepts emitted in signed articles are of the exclusive responsibility of their authors.

The abbreviated title of the journal is Opin. Publica, which should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, and bibliographical references and strips.
