Scope and editorial policy
The Pro-Posições journal is a forum for presenting research results and scientific, artistic and philosophical discussions that, regardless of area of knowledge, contribute to the critical reflection on the various dimensions of Education. The journal welcomes original productions on the field and accepts contributions in the form of articles, bibliographic essays and reviews, in line with the Open Science communication practices, and the good research practices, transparency in the processes of knowledge production, editorial production and in sharing content for cooperation among researchers. Originals submitted for publication must be unpublished (in printed or electronic media), except those previously made available on preprints servers managed by public institutions and that do not charge authors for publication.Simultaneous submission to any other journal or editor for evaluation or publication is not permitted. If accepted, the manuscripts shall remain unpublished until publication in Revista Pro-Posições, except those made available in preprint servers. Papers published in conference proceedings may be accepted, provided that the manuscript submitted to the journal is substantially modified to offer a significant proportion of unpublished elements that justify further publication. We suggest the authors to read the documents “Text-recycling: acceptable or misconduct?” and “How to deal with text recycling?”. They can be obtained through Pro-Posições executive editors and are also available online, respectively, at:
The Editorial Board is responsible for deciding whether or not to publish the manuscripts, based on the assessment of ad hoc reviewers. In order to contribute to a more pressing debate in the area, the Editorial Board may publish articles produced by invitation. These articles will be assessed by the Editorial Board only. In such cases, such special procedure shall be clearly stated in the publication. Ethics in Scientific Publication The Journal Pro-Posições subscribes to the codes of transparency and best practices of scientific practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)i, the Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO)ii, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)iii, the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA)iv, the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME)v, the CSE’s White Paper on Promoting Integrity in Scientific Journal Publicationvi, the Office of Research Integrityvii, the Declaration on Research Assessment (Dora)viii, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE)ix, the Equator Networkx, to the guidelines of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq)xi and the best practices manual of the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP)xii. Authors must meet the requirements of originality, give due credit to data sources, research and intellectual works of any nature used in the text and ensure that all citations and references are properly explained, according to the bibliographic standardization adopted by the journal (APA Style). The author of the manuscript is responsible for verifying, registering, and obtaining the proper authorizations for use or assignment of copyright, when applicable. If similarity, plagiarism or self-plagiarism if found, the manuscript will be summarily rejected. Pro-Posições uses the “Turnitin” system to verify similarities in the submitted papers, before sending them for peer review and, if accepted, before their publication. Additionally, other similarity detection tools can be used at the journal’s discretion. Open Access and Use Licenses Pro-Posições adopts the Open Access publication systemand supports the FAIRxiii (Findable – Accessible – Interoperable – Re-usable) principles. Such policy aims to promote scientific dissemination and communication, ensure society a free, public and unrestricted access, thus contributing to the democratization of science and knowledge. Pro-Posições adopts the Creative Commons CC-BYxiv international license, which allows its readers to copy, redistribute, remix, transform and adapt the material for any purpose, provided that the original production is properly credited. Exceptional restrictions on partial or total content published by the journal will be duly identified and informed. Search Dataxv Pro-Posições supports and encourages the deposit and sharingxvi of research data, program codes and other underlying materials, used in or to support manuscript writing. As of January 1, 2022, this data will be mandatorily deposited in public repositories, for example: the Scientific Data Repository of the State of São Pauloxvii, created from FAPESP’s Data Management Planxviii, the SciELO Dataxix, the IBICT Dataversexx. Preservation and Restoration Pro-Posições is part of indexers such as SciELO, Redalyc and PPEC. Papers published in the journal are thus available in these databases, which have their own backup and restoration systems. All articles published in the journal are also archived in the Publications section of the School of Education of the State University of Campinas, which has its own local and institutional backup system. Publication frequency Pro-Posições is published in electronic version in a single issue per year, with a continuous publication (CP). Sections Pro-Posições is organized in four sections:
Types of manuscripts Articles should present significant, original, and relevant research findings from the analysis of previously unexplored data and evidence. Bibliographic essays should promote theoretical and/or methodological reflections on a specific field of Education. In preparing articles and bibliographic essays, authors should consider the current state of the national and international debate on the issue at hand. The journal requires manuscript originality and values its importance for researchers in Education and other areas, the methodological rigor, and the quality and relevance of the evidence supporting the argument and the reflections developed therein. Articles and bibliographic essays can be submitted to the Articles section or to the collection that make up the Dossier section. Reviews are critical studies of recently published studies. They must present, obligatorily, the complete bibliographic reference and contain comments and appreciations about the ideas expressed in the work, methodology employed, relevance of the theme and the approach to the field. They must also locate the author in the debate of the relevant field. Pro-Posições, regardless of the type of manuscript – articles, bibliographic essays and reviews –, values collaborations that offer an original and relevant contribution to the field. The evaluation system adopted allows the journal to act as a space for dialogue and debates, contributing to advance the research in the field. |
Preparation of originals
The authors are responsible for verifying if the originals comply with the types of manuscripts accepted by Pro-Posições. Papers that do not meet Pro-Posições standards will be returned to the authors. Authorship: for manuscripts with more than one author, the author responsible for the submission (corresponding author) must obtain authorization from all authors who contributed in writing the manuscript, ensuring that they are recognized as co-authors. The list of authors must include all who can legitimately claim authorship of the manuscript according to the following criteria:
Each author must have participated sufficiently in the work to be in a position to assume public responsibility for the content or a substantive part of it. For works done by authors from different institutions, the group must identify the individual(s) responsible for the manuscript, who, in turn, must meet all the authorship criteria listed above. Actions such as obtaining funding, data collection, or general supervision of the research group do not configure authorship per se. All those who contributed to the production of the manuscript, but do not meet the necessary criteria for authorship, should be mentioned in the “acknowledgements” section. The same applies to people who gave exclusively technical assistance for data processing or for writing the manuscript. All authors of the manuscript must be named and linked to the article in the field assigned in the submission system. This ensures that the article is linked to the authors only through the submission system. For the final product, the type of each author’s contribution must also be informed according to the CRediTxxi (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) specification system. Regardless of the type of contribution made, all authors are equally responsible for the article. ORCID: All authors and co-authors must be registered in ORCID, and their identifications must be informed on the submission form. They are also responsible for keeping their respective registrations updated on the submission platform. Anonymity: to ensure anonymous evaluation, all indications of authorship, including the username registered in the text editor, as well as references and credits to the original research, ethics committee or funding agencies, must be deleted from the original texts. Manuscripts derived from dissertations and theses should not contain indication of the title, advisor or institution where they were defended. Acknowledgements must also be removed from the version submitted for analysis. Once the article is approved for publication, the information deemed relevant and necessary will be reinserted.
Anonymity procedures will not be required from those who choose to deposit their manuscript in preprint platforms. Languages: Pro-Posições accepts contributions in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. According to recommendations to incentivize the internationalization of scientific platforms and agencies to foster research, Pro-Posições will publish its articles and essays in two languages, one of which must be English. Authors who submit manuscripts of articles and essays in Portuguese or Spanish, if accepted, must provide an English version. The authors who submit manuscripts in English, if accepted, must provide either a Portuguese or Spanish version (see further details in the item “editorial production”). Authors who work in teaching institutions in Lusophone countries must submit their manuscripts in Portuguese. Their articles in Portuguese, as well as their translated versions, must contain:
Format: The text must be typed in MS-Word for Windows text editor and submitted in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format. Formatting and style: Font Times New Roman, size 12; line spacing 1.5; page size A4 (297 x 210 mm), with 2.5 cm top and bottom margins; and 3 cm right and left margins. Highlights in general should be made with quotation marks or italics, without using bold or underscore. Chapters, Titles, and Subtitles should be highlighted in bold, using a different font size from the rest of the text (13, 14, 15, or 16, depending on the hierarchical level of the chapter). Textual review and Bibliographic Standardization: It is mandatory that the authors submit the text to orthographic and grammatical revision and to the APA - American Psychological Association (7th edition)xxiii standards. Authors are also responsible for the accuracy of the references in the bibliography of their articles and their correct citation in the text. Length: Papers must conform to the following length:
Tables and Illustrations(diagram, flowchart, photograph, graph, map, organization chart, plan, chart, picture, figure, image, among others): Tables must be numbered sequentially, inserted and cited in the body of the text; they must have legible characters, a number and title above the image, and, below it, left-aligned, captions or statements and a source indication. They must be standardized according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Illustrations (diagram, flowchart, photograph, graph, map, organization chart, plan, chart, picture, figure, image, among others) must be presented within the text and sent as separate files via the online submission system, in JPG, PNG, or TIFF format, in a minimum 300 dpi resolution, numbered, and accompanied by the respective titles, sources, and captions. In the text, its identification appears at the bottom, preceded by the word designation, followed by its number of order of occurrence in the text, in Arabic numerals, the respective title and/or explanatory caption in a brief and clear manner, which dispenses with consulting the text and the source. The illustration should be inserted as close as possible to the excerpt to which it refers, according to the graphic design. Explanatory notes: must be listed consecutively within the text, in footnote format, and should be of an explanatory nature only. |

Review process
Dossiers Dossiers are reviewed in three stages. First, the Editorial Board reviews the proposed dossier to verify that each article is in accordance with the editorial policy, scope, and area of interest of the journal. The second and third review steps are equivalent to the article review, discussed in this document. To be published as a dossier, the set must have a minimum of six articles approved by reviewers, of which at least two must have authors associated with foreign institutions. If the number of approved manuscripts is less than six, or if they lack the minimum number of authors associated with foreign institutions, the approved texts may be published separately in the Articles section. Reviews Reviews are reviewed by the Editorial Board, thus adopting the main editor peer-reviewsystem. Articles The review process of articles and bibliographic essays, submitted or not as part of dossiers, occurs in two stages. In the first stage, they are examined by the Editorial Board to verify if they are in accordance with the editorial policy, scope and area of interest of Pro-Posições. The manuscripts approved in the first stage will be reviewed by at least two ad hoc reviewers whose areas of expertise are related to the theme of the text. In this second stage, Pro-Posições uses the double-blind peer-review system in which the identity of the authors is not revealed to the reviewers and vice-versa, unless one or both parties formally authorize opening the reviews, as a way of meeting the principles of open science. For articles from preprint servers, the journal adopts the single-blind peer-review system, in which the identity of the authors is visible to reviewers, whereas the former's is not revealed to the authors unless they formally authorize their identification, as a way to comply with the principles of open science. The peer review can go in three directions.
Pro-Posições, at the end of the review process, makes the issued opinions available to the authors. If the reviewers request revisions, the reformulated manuscript returns to the Editorial Board, which again forwards it to the reviewers for a new evaluation until a final recommendation is made. For a manuscript to be published, it must be approved by two ad hoc reviewers. In case of divergent opinions, the manuscript is forwarded to a third reviewer. If the author(s) disagrees with the final evaluation, it is possible to appeal to the Editorial Board, which has the final decision. Minor changes in the writing/structure of the text may be made at the Editorial Board’s discretion. The composition of the set of articles approved for publication in the journal seeks to guarantee thematic or authorial diversity, implying that the acceptance of the manuscript is not conditioned to its immediate publication. Pro-Posições, in its transparency policy and respect for the importance of the voluntary collaboration of ad hoc reviewers, reserves them the right to open their acceptance opinions, anonymously or not, and eventually publish them together with the article. In the published articles, the identification of the associate editors responsible for conducting the review process will also be made available. Pro-Posições makes every effort to have the manuscripts evaluated as soon as possible, with an average of six months between submission and communication of the final evaluation result to the authors. However, the process of reviewing a manuscript can be affected by a number of intervening parties, making the processing of some articles take considerably longer. |
