Scope and policy

Publishing Guidelines

Our Goals:

The aim of the Revista de Administração Contemporânea (RAC) is to make a contribution to the advancement in the study of Administration through the publication of relevant research projects, theoretical analyses, documents, notes and reviews that may aid academic activities and administration in public, private and third sector organizations.

Scope & Focus:

The RAC publishes articles on theoretical development and theoretical-empirical papers in the field of Administration. Different theoretical and methodological perspectives in the treatment of subjects are acceptable as long as they are consistent and relevant to the development of the field (articles based on single-case studies will be accepted as long as they deal with organizations that are highly representative of their fields of operation or make a significant contribution to the furthering of knowledge). In addition to articles, the RAC also publishes reviews, notes and documents for the community to reflect on.

Target Audience:

The target audience is mainly professionals and students from Brazilian universities along with managers of public, private and third sector organizations who are interested in dialog and innovation in administration.

Requirements:

Articles, documents, notes and reviews submitted to the RAC should be previously unpublished either in Brazil or overseas and should not be under consideration for publication by any other publication. Papers that have been published at congresses may be considered by our council as long as they are in the final form of an article. Articles and documents may be submitted in Portuguese, English or Spanish.

Submission:

To submit a paper, the electronic form available at www.anpad.org.br/rac should be completed and forwarded to us along with the requested annexed files, which should be prepared in accordance with our submission guidelines, which are also available on the site.

Analysis of submissions: Articles and documents

1. We use a system of anonymous triple evaluation for the analysis of articles forwarded to us for publication. The submitted documents are analyzed by our editors in accordance with our policy with no external evaluation Texts which do not meet our submission criteria and technical characteristics will not be accepted.
2. The author or first author of the article submitted will receive a reply from us within 120 days of receipt of the article at the RAC.
3. The articles and documents are the exclusive responsibility of the author(s). All rights, including those for translation, are reserved. Parts of the article may be quoted without permission as long as the source is identified. 
4. In order to be published, the authors must sign the Copyrights Letter (Carta de Direitos Autorais),
which the model will be sent to the authors by e-mail, reserving the rights, including translation, to RAC.
 

Analysis of submitted articles: Teaching in Administration

1. Submitted cases are analyzed by the editors according to editorial policy, without external evaluation. Texts that do not meet our criteria or technical characteristics for the section they are submitted to will not be accepted.
2. A reply will be sent to the author or first author within 120 days of the receipt of the article by the RAC.
3. The signed articles are the exclusive responsibility of the author(s). All rights, including rights for translation, are reserved. Part of the article may be quoted without permission as long as the source is identified.

Analysis of submitted articles: Book Reviews

1. Book reviews which are submitted are analyzed by the editors according to the editorial policy, without external evaluation. Texts which do not meet the criteria and technical characteristics of the RAC for the section they are submitted to will not be accepted.
2. A reply will be sent to the author or first author within 120 days of receipt by the RAC.
3. The signed review is the exclusive responsibility of the author. All rights, including rights for translation, are reserved as long as the source is identified.
4. In order to be published, the authors must sign the Copyrights Letter (Carta de Direitos Autorais),
which the model will be sent to the authors by e-mail, reserving the rights, including translation, to RAC.

Analysis of Bibliographic Notes

1. Submitted bibliographic notes are analyzed by the editors according to editorial policy and guidelines without external evaluation. 

2. A reply will be sent to the author of the notes within 60 counting from the day the notes are received by the RAC. 

3. Bibliographic notes are not signed but the credit of authorship and/or indication is given at the end of the communication and their content is the exclusive responsibility of the author/contributor of the notes. All rights, including rights for translation are reserved. Part of the notes may be quoted without permission on the condition that the source is identified.

4. In order to be published, the authors must sign the Copyrights Letter (Carta de Direitos Autorais),
which the model will be sent to the authors by e-mail, reserving the rights, including translation, to RAC.

 

Form and preparations of manuscripts

Presentation form for Articles and Documents 
Texts must be forwarded to us in accordance with the following criteria and technical characteristics: 
1. Formatting: A-4 paper (29,7 x 21 cm); margins: upper=3cm, lower=2cm, left-hand=3cm and right-hand=2cm; Word for Windows 6.0 or later version, in Times New Roman font, size 12, in double spacing. The article should not be longer than twenty-six pages, including tables, figures, graphs and illustrations, notes and bibliography. Graphs, tables, figures and other illustrations must not be in color. BOLD type should be used for emphasis and ITALICS only for foreign words. DOUBLE QUOTATION MARKS should be used for direct quotes and interviews.   SINGLE QUOTATION MARKS should be used within double quotation marks for quoted words or phrases that were originally in double quotation marks. The title should be placed at the head of the first page and the name(s) of the author(s) should not be included.
2. The following items should be placed on a separate page: title of the article in Portuguese and English, full name(s) of the author(s) and a brief curriculum vitae with the academic qualification of the author(s) along with academic/professional experience, field(s) of interest in research, connection with institution(s), address, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers. In the case of there being more than one author, their names should be ordered by the amount of contribution each one made to the article.
3. An abstract should be sent in both English and Portuguese, outlining the aims, method, results and conclusions of the article along with three to five key words in both languages, so that it can be read by an international audience. The abstract should be no longer than 1,350 characters, including spaces.
4. You should inform which of the following areas your work should be assessed for: Information Administration, Science & Technology Administration, Teaching and Research in Administration, Strategy in Organizations, Finance, International Management, Operations & Logistics Management, Management of People & Work Relations, Public Management and Governance, Public Policy, Marketing, Organizations/Organizational Behavior, Organizations/Theory of Organizations, Social & Environmental Management, Management of Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship or Entrepreneurial Behavior.
5. Quotes should be placed in the body of the text, including the name of the author of the source, the date of publication and the page number (if applicable), according to the rules of the APA. A complete bibliography of all quoted works should be supplied in alphabetical order at the end of the text, according to the ruels of the APA. For a brief summary of the APA rules, click here. 6. Footnotes should not be placed at the foot of the page and should be kept to a minimum and numbered in sequence in the body of the text. They should be placed at the end of the article before the bibliography. 
7. The article should be submitted through our website.

Presentation form for Cases of Teaching in Administration 

Cases are reports of experiences of organizations that are of scientific interest in the field of Administration and adapted for didactic use. A case should describe a real situation and present matter for reflection for the purpose of analyzing decisions made by an organization that resulted in its current situation, thus providing an opportunity for the improvement of the organization and improving the learning/teaching experience. Cases in Administration should be forwarded to us in accordance with the following criteria and technical characteristics: 
1. Priority will be given to more recent cases: cases that are over 24 months old may be submitted and approved, but they are not encouraged. The author(s) must consider that the main objective of the case is didactic, which means that they should focus on: (1) the presentation of the organizational situation; (2) the description of the facts which consolidate this business situation; (3) a synthesis of the educational goals of the case; (4) a description of the way in which the information of the case was obtained; (5) the target audience that would make the best use of the case. 
2. Formatting: A-4 paper (29,7 x 21 cm); margins: upper = 3cm, lower = 2cm, left-hand = 3cm and right-hand = 2cm; Word for Windows 6.0 or later version, Times New Roman font, size 12 with double spacing. The content of the case should be no longer than 22 pages, including any figures, tables, graphs, notes and bibliography. BOLD type should be used for emphasis. ITALICS should be used only for foreign words. DOUBLE QUOTATION MARKS should be used for direct quotes and interviews.   SINGLE QUOTATION MARKS should be used within double quotation marks for quoted words or phrases that were originally in double quotation marks. The title should be placed at the head of the first page and the name(s) of the author(s) should not be included.
3. The following items should be included on a separate page: title in English and Portuguese (the name of the organization should not be translated), full name(s) of the author(s) and a brief curriculum vitae with their academic titles, professional and academic experience, fields of interest in research, institutions they are connected with, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers. If there is more than one author, their names should be ordered according to the contribution each made to the case. 
4. The case should be accompanied by a signed letter from a member of the organization, authorizing its publication in our journal.
5. An abstract in English and Portuguese should be included, stating the aims and a brief description of the real situation in question, in addition to three to five key words in both languages. The educational aims of the case should be outlined in up to ten lines of text in addition to the source(s) of the case data in up to five lines. There should also be up to five lines recommending the use of the information. The abstract should be no longer than 1,350 characters, including spaces.
6. Quotes should be placed in the body of the text including the surname of the author of the source, the date of publication and the page number, if applicable, according to the norms of the APA. 7. Footnotes should not be placed at the bottom of the page. They should be placed at the end of the text before the bibliography, numbered sequentially and kept to a minimum.

Presentation of Book Reviews

Reviews are critiques of books and scientific publications Brazilian and international of scientific interest. A review should summarize, analyze, compare and give an opinion on the work, thereby providing a theoretical or scientific contribution to the field. In this sense, a review not only informs people of the release or existence of the book but must offer a contribution to the subject or field by way of a critical analysis. Book reviews must be submitted in accordance with the following criteria and technical characteristics: 
1. Priority will not be given to reviews of works of a managerial or exclusively technical nature, nor to text books. Priority will be given to more recent reviews, i.e., reviews of works published in over two years beforehand may be accepted but are not encouraged. The author(s) of reviews must bear in mind that their purpose is to provide an informed review of the work in question, which means that they should focus on: (1) the purpose of the work and/or author; (2) the relevance of the contribution of the work to the field of Administration; (3) the synthesis and analysis of the parts, sections or chapters in the way the work is organized; and (4) who the target audience in the field might be and whatr use they would have for the work. 
2. Formatting: A-4 paper (29,7 x 21 cm); margins: upper = 3cm, lower = 2cm, left-hand = 3cm and right-hand = 2cm; Word for Windows 6.0 or later version, using Times New Roman font, size 12 with double spacing. The review should be no longer than three pages, including tables, figures, graphs, illustrations, notes and bibliographic references. BOLD type should be used for emphasis to sentences, terms or symbols. ITALICS should only be used for foreign words in the text. DOUBLE QUOTATION MARKS should be used for direct quotes and quotes from interviews. SINGLE QUOTATION MARKS should be used to identify material which was originally quoted within the quote. On the first page there should be the title, name(s) of the author(s) and the editorial data of the reviewed work (place, publisher, year of publication, total number of pages and ISBN). The name(s) of the author(s) of the review should not be supplied here. 
3. The following items should be placed on a separate page: title and name(s) of the author(s) of the review and the institution(s) they are connected to, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers. If there is more than one author, names should be listed according to the amount of contribution each made to the review. 
4. Quotes should be placed in the body of the text including the surname of the author of the source, the date of publication and the page number, if applicable, according to the norms of the APA. A complete bibliography should be given in alphabetical order at the end of the text. A brief summary of the APA rules can be found by clicking here. 5. There should be no footnotes of any kind (either at the foot of the page or at the end of the text in the case of reviews.
6. Reviews should be submitted through our website at www.anpad.org.br/rac.

Presentation of Bibliographic Notes

Bibliographic notes are short writings about scientific publications or about publications of scientific interest from Brazil or abroad in the field of Administration, including text books, without any analysis or opinion. They are made in order to inform the reader about recent publications that are of interest to the academic community. Notes should be forwarded to us in accordance with the following criteria and technical characteristics: 
1. Priority will not be given to notes of a managerial or exclusively technical nature. Priority will be given to notes that are up-to-date: notes about works that are over a year old may be approved but are not encouraged. The author of the submitted note must consider his/her reasons for announcing a publication, which means that s/he must focus on: (1) the identification of the nature of the work and/or author; (2) whether an audience in the field would have a use for the work and identify who that audience is. 
2. Formatting: A-4 paper (29,7 x 21 cm); margins: upper = 3cm, lower = 2cm, left-hand = 3cm and right-hand = 2cm; Word for Windows 6.0 or later version, in Times New Roman font, size 12 with double spacing. The note should be no longer than 115 words of text, i.e., excluding the data of the work and the author. On the first page there should be the title, name(s) of the author(s) and the editorial data of the commented work (place, publisher, year of publication, number of pages and ISBN). The author of the note’s name should not be included.
3. On a separate page there should be the title and the name of the author of the note along with their institutions, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers. Notes may only be submitted by one author. It is not possible to give credit for notes to more than one author.
4. If available, the author of the note should supply a scanned image of the cover of the work the note is about or indicate a website where this image may be obtained. 
5. Bibliographic notes should be submitted through our website at www.anpad.org.br/rac.
