The Brazilian Journal of Physical Education and Sport (RBEFE)/Revista Brasileira de Educação Física e Esporte is a tri monthly publication from the School of Physical Education and Sport of the University of São Paulo (EEFEUSP) with the mission of publishing researches that contribute to advance the field of Physical Education and Sport.

POLICIES

• Only original research that has not nor will be published elsewhere will be considered for publication in the RBEFE.
• The submission of manuscripts is only to be made through the online system (http://submission.scielo.br/index.php/rbefe/login). Before submission, the authors must go through a checklist in order to assure compliance to the guidelines.
• The submission will be evaluated in two steps. The first evaluation will check for formatting, writing style and scope. The editors will then either reject the submission or move it forward to a double-blind peer-review process. Whenever conflicting reviews are provided, the editor will either assign the manuscript to a third reviewer or reject the submission.
• The authors will be asked to indicate two preferred and two non-preferred reviewers (optional). Importantly, the RBEFE reserves the right to choose the reviewers regardless of the authors’ indication.
• The reviewers will receive the manuscripts electronically along with a form containing the key points to be evaluated. The reviewers will also be notified in respect of the deadlines for the conclusion of the reviews.
• The following types of manuscripts are accepted by te RBEFE:

- Original articles.
- Short reviews are accepted upon invitation only. Each edition of the RBEFE will comprise the publication of a maximum of two short review articles.
- Special communications: “Methodological advances” and “Letter to the editor”.
- No review articles are accepted at this time.
SUBAREAS

• The authors must indicate one of the following sections of the RBEFE upon submission of a new manuscript.
• Sociocultural - articles related to Physical Education and Sport History, Philosophy, Antropology, Sociology, Politics, Economics, and Administration.
• Biodynamics - articles related to Physical Education and Sport Biochemistry, Physiology, Biomechanics, Medicine, Nutrition and related areas.
• Behaviour and Pedagogy - articles related to Physical Education and Sport Psychology, Motor Control and Motor Behavior, Pedagogy and related areas.

2. The authors are allowed a 30-day period to provide the proper amendments after the reviews are provided. After this period, the manuscript will be considered as a new submission and not as a reviewed manuscript. If a longer period is necessary, the authors shall consult the section editor.

• The articles can be submitted in any of the three languages: Portuguese, English or Spanish.
• The authors are solely responsible for the content and writing of the articles.
• During the reviewing process the authors shall include a header of the new version of the manuscript with the manuscript ID and the number of the review (e.g. RBEFE-94 review 1)

The corresponding author must be clearly stated in the submission. The manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the RBEFE style below. The editors reserve the right to alter the style for coherence purposes.
An original article must contain:

• Title page
1. Title with no more than 120 characters, including spaces.
2. Full name of the authors - please note that only those with substantial participation on the conduction of the research and preparation of the manuscript (according to the norms above) shall be included as authors. The editors reserve the right to request the reduction of the number of authors.
3. Authors affiliation, properly identified by an upper case number.
4. Corresponding author name, address, telephone, fax, and email (please inform an additional alternative email address).
5. Short title with no more than 60 characters, including spaces.

• Abstract
1. Limited to 275 words, including numbers, abbreviations and symbols.
2. The abstract must contain objectives, methods, results, and conclusion (but shall not be structured into sections).
3. No citations are allowed into the abstract.
4. For manuscripts in Portuguese or Spanish, please provide an abstract in English language.

• Keywords
1. Four (4) to six (6) keywords that not those included in the title must be included below the abstract.

• Introduction
1. Clearly present the aims and hypothesis of the study.
2. Present a proper bibliography to sustain the rationale for the study.

• Method
1. Present the study design.
2. Present information regarding the subjects.
3. Clearly present the methods, equipments, and procedures so it can be easily reproduced.
4. Present references for the methods and statistical analysis.

• Results
1. Present the study results in text, tables and/or figures.
2. Do not duplicate data in both text and tables or figures.

• Discussion
1. Emphasize the originality and relevance of the study.
2. Contextualize the significance of the findings in perspective of the literature.
3. Limit the conclusions to those supported by the results.

• Acknowledgments
1. Identify any funding for the study.
2. Acknowledge any collaboration for the study.

The RBEFE adopts the Vancouver styling for both citations and references. The references must be listed in double-spaced text in numerical order as they appear in the text. The journal abbreviations must be in accordance with the latest edition of the Index Medicus. The first and last page of each reference must be informed.

Figures

The RBEFE accepts figures in electronic format only. Figures must be submitted as a separate file from the manuscript. The authors must provide  a figure legend (inserted in the manuscript, after the References section) for each submitted figures.

Guidelines:

• Each figure must be saved in a separate file, without the figure legend.
• The files must be in .tiff format.
• Photographs, CT scans, radiographs, etc. should be saved at a resolution of at least 300 dpi.
• Combination photo-line art and grayscale images should be saved at 600-900 dpi.
• Color images should be scanned in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) mode. Do not submit any figures in RGB (red, green, blue) mode. Submit color figures only if color publication is intended. Color publication incurs additional charges.
• Lettering (symbols, letters, and numbers) should be between 8 and 12 points, with consistent spacing and alignment (Garamond, Adobe Garamond or Agaramond style).
•  Any extra white or black space surrounding the image should be cropped. Ensure that subject-identifying information (i.e., faces, names, or any other identifying features) is cropped or opaqued.
• Artwork should be submitted in final size and should be cropped and rotated as it will appear in the final printed piece.

 
Tables

• Tables should be double-spaced and designed to fit a one-column width (3¼ inches) or a two-column width (7 inches).
• Each table shall have a brief caption; explanatory matter should be in footnotes below the table.
• The table shall contain means and the units of variation (SD, SE, etc.) and must be free of nonsignificant decimal places.
• Abbreviations used in tables must be consistent with those used in the text and figures. Definition symbols should be listed in the order of appearance determined by reading horizontally across the table and should be identified by standard symbols.

The RBEFE requires that the use of subjects should be approved by an ethics committee prior to the investigation and shall be stated in the Method section of the submitted manuscript. Additionally, the authors must indicate that, “informed consent was obtained from the subject,” or by similar wording.  The RBEFE reserves the right to ask for the approval form from the Ethical Committee. All of the studies involving animal experimentation shall be conducted in conformance with their local legislation regarding animal experimentation.
The units of measurement shall respect the Système International d'Unités (SI). As a general rule, only standard abbreviations and symbols must be used. If non-standardized abbreviations are to be used, its definition must be provided at its first appearance within the text. 

Checklist

• It is an original contribution that has not been concomitantly submitted to another journal.

• The main file (manuscript) is in Microsoft Word format.

• The manuscript should be no longer than 40 pages (A-4 paper format), typed in double space in either Garamond, Adobe Garamond or Agaramond (font size 12). The pages AND lines must be numbered, starting over at each page.

• The text is in conformance with the journal style.

• Indicate a journal section for the submission: Biodynamics; Sociocultural; and Behaviour and Pedagogy .

• The identification of the submission - Title, Authors, Affiliations, email and correspondance addresses - must be presented into the submission website and, therefore, shall not be included in the manuscript file;
• The manuscript shall not allow any possible identification of the authors.
