INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

 

Scope and Policy

The focus of The Modern Economic Magazine (REC) is to develop an academic debate on the important issues of economic policies within Economic Theory and Applied Economy (especially Industrial Economy, Labor Economics and Economic Policy), History of Economic Thought, economic methodology and other similar areas that related to economy, in particular that of Brazil and Latin America. It also aims towards increasing comprehension of Economic Science. This magazine is well known as an important vehicle among the academic publications on economy in the Brazil.

These unpublished articles cannot be forwarded to other magazines simultaneously. If these original manuscripts are sent to the REC, authorization must be obtained from the writer. The magazine will not pay copyright and the original copies will be deemed definitive. If the magazine approves the tests, they will be sent to the author for proofreading.

 

Form and preparation of the manuscripts

The articles cannot have more than 9,000 words, 65,000 characters (with spaces). This includes drawings, tables, graphs, etc… Each article must also have a summary that cannot exceed ten lines. It also has to be simple spaced in Arial or Times New Roman font 12. The articles must be written in Portuguese and English and they will be judged according to the approved standards of the Journal of Economic Literature (JEL). Editorials are articles with less than 3,500 words. Notes and comments are analyses of the articles published in the Magazine of Modern Economy that give the author of the text the right to reply. Editorials are also short analyses of any problem and of applied economy. Book reviews cannot exceed 1,700 words. Citations and footnotes must be used according to the norms for technical-scientific works of the ABNT- Brazilian Association of Technical Norms.

 

Remitting the manuscripts

The articles must be sent by e-mail to rec@ie.ufrj.br or they can be mailed in four copies to Av. Pasteur, 250, Urca, Prédio do Instituto de Economia, Sala 110. CEP: 22290-240, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brasil in a floppy disk or CD-ROM.
