INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

• Scope and policy
• Format and preparation of the manuscripts

-- Revista Katálysis is dedicated to the publication of works about current and important issues in the realm of Social Work, related fields and those with common interdisciplinary interests. Each edition focuses on a single theme that is previously defined by the Editorial Commission, but also opens space to works that deal with other issues, as long as they are related, predominantly to the field of Social Work.

-- The works submit for publication must have never been published, and they may not be presented simultaneously to another journal, including the text, tables and illustrations.

-- All editorial rights are reserved to Revista Katálysis, no part of the publication may be reproduced, stored by any system or transmit by any means or form existing or which may be created, without previous written permission of the Editorial Commission, and without credit and reference, according to Brazilian copyright laws.  

-- When sending an article, the author(s) should sign and send the Declaration of Responsibility and Transfer of Authorial Rights (model below).

-- Works submit for publication will be analyzed by peers, who are members of the Scientific Editorial Council, or ad hoc reviewers, who will determine whether the article will be accepted or not, and can suggest that the authors make changes or adaptations to comply with the journal's editorial norms. The final decision about  the publication of works received will be up to the Editorial Commission, based on the magazine's editorial policy. The analysis will consider the rigor, clarity and precision of scientific production, writing quality, the content and the ethical-theoretical probity. Any modifications to the structure and content will be agreed to with the authors. No additions or alterations to the text will be accepted after an articles final evaluation and acceptance. The Editorial Commission will assure authors anonymity in the evaluation process, and assure evaluators that their participation will be classified, allowing freedom of judgment and evaluations.

-- All work resulting from research or experiences that involve human subjects will have their publication conditioned on compliance with ethical principles, which should be clearly described in the final paragraph of the Methodology section of the article. It should indicate if the procedures respect the Helsinki Declaration (1975, revised in 1983). The work of Brazilian authors should also indicate respect for Resolutions of the National Healthcare Council, n. 196, of 10/10/96 and n. 251, of 07/08/97, and present the report of the Ethics Committee of the institution of origin of the author(s).

-- Already published (in print or on-line) works may be published in exceptional cases as long as they are accompanied with written authorization and signed by the author and the head of the Editorial Board of the journal where the work had been originally published.  

-- Revista Katálysis publishes works in the languages of Portuguese, Spanish and English (the later with an accompanying Portuguese version).

-- The opinions and concepts presented in the work, as well as the precision, suitability and source of the quotes and references, are the exclusive responsibility of the author(s), and do not necessarily reflect the position of the Editorial Commission.

-- Submission of a work to the journal implies in the acceptance by the author(s) of the norms presented here.

-- Revista Katálysis will not remunerate authors who have their works published in the journal, although the authors will be sent the edition in which their text is published.

-- Revista Katálysis publishes applied research, theoretical research, reports on an experience, essays, book reviews communications, adaptations of lectures, interwiews and preliminary notes (find explanations about the types of work at the end).

-- Preliminary notes should have a maximum of two pages; book reviews, a maximum of four pages. Communications, a maximum of two pages. The other works should have a maximum of 15 pages, including illustrations, graphs, tables, photos and references (if photos of people are used, even if not identified, they must be accompanied by written permission of the people photographed; photos of children or adolescents must be used in accord with the law).

-- Figures, tables and clear photos, in high definition, only in black and white, must be sent with the original, with a header (if necessary), credits and caption. If the illustrations sent have been previously published, mention the source and present permission for reproduction.

-- The articles presented should be rigorously edited, according to current grammatical norms.

-- The work should follow the criteria of the Brazilian Association of Technical Norms (ABNT). During editing they will be adapted to the design and editorial format of Revista Katálysis.

-- Word for Windows, should be used with the following format: typeface Times New Roman size 12, paper size A-4, space between lines of 1.5 cm, all margins should be 2.5 cm.

-- Title and abstract in the language of the article.

• Titles should have a maximum of 12 words.
• The abstract must be informative, with 140-150 words and with three to five key words that are descriptive of the work.
• Title, abstract and key words in English (if possible).

To send work, it is necessary to include:

1. A letter of submission;
2. Declaration of responsibility;
3. Transfer of copyright;
4. Registration form for the article;
5. Online file with the article.

NOTE:  All of the items must be sent by e-mail. The first three items should contain a signature, which may be digital. If this is not possible, they can be sent in CD, DVD or in print, by regular mail.

Quotes and references (bibliography)

-- Quotes should be used according to NBR-10520, of August 2002, which Revista Katálysis has systematized as follows:

• The quotes should be indicated in the text by the so-called author-date system.
• Quotes of up to three lines should be placed within the body of the text, between quotation marks, in the same typeface as the text.
• Quotes of more than three lines should be separated from the body of the text, in font 11, indented to the paragraph line, without quotation marks (or any other form of highlighting), simple spacing between lines, with the right margin the same as the text.
• Name of the author of the work, for the two above cases:

  a) in the body of the text (normal letters for proper names). Example: According to Mota (1997, p. 87), "Academic knowledge [...]";

  b) between parentheses, in uppercase. Example: "Academic knowledge [...]" (MOTA, 1997, p. 87).

-- References should be presented according to NBR 6023, of August 2002, in the system author-date -- only for documents actually quoted in the work.

-- For purposes of systematization of the Journal, use only italics as a typographic resource.

 Types of Texts -- Sections of the Journal

Editorial: presents critical and in-depth commentary, prepared by the editors and or by researchers with considerable knowledge about the issue.

Theoretical research: presents broader issues, discusses questions, analyses hypotheses and questions current paradigms; it may formulate new hypotheses and new research directions. It should have an introduction, development and conclusion.

 Applied research: original texts reporting on Research Results. They are contributions designed to present new results of empiric, experimental research, constituting complete works, with important information whose results and conclusions can be repeated or evaluated. The article should have the following structure: introduction, method (subjects, material, procedure) results and discussion.

Reports on an experience: present case studies with analysis of conceptual implications, or a description of the procedures or strategies for intervention, with methodologically suitable evidence that is of interest to the work of social assistants in various fields.

Essays: present opinions and or analysis that can contribute to a reflection and deeper understanding of issues related to the subject featured in the issue.

Book reviews: critical reviews of recently-published books, guiding the reader about its characteristics and potential; they should be brief, prepared by specialists in their field, with a commented summary of the book, with opinions that can give a general overview of the work. The book review should be accompanied by a high definition image file of the book cover.

Interviews: interviews with people who have conducted outstanding work related to the theme of the edition.

Communication: space destined for presentation of opinions, releases or indications of publications, realizations of events and practices in the academic and social field.

Preliminary Notes: space destined to the promotion of theses and dissertations in progress. They should indicate: the type of study; its objectives, methodology and stage of development. Limit of 4 pages, observing the sequence:

- title in Portuguese, English and Spanish;
- complete name of the author, titles, position and institution to which he or she is affiliated;
- name of the advisor;
- references, if presented, should follow ABNT standards;
- complete address, telephone, fax and e-mail.

Adaptations of lectures: presentation of lectures, adapted to the format for an article, for special cases in which the subject of the lecture is of considerable interest to the theme of the edition.
