Editorial policy: The journal aims to disseminate the scientific production of teaching and research institutions whose environment fosters the development of interdisciplinary research, for it receives contributions from different knowledge areas (exact, biological and social sciences) and can socialize new emerging forms of approaching the object. Another aim is to disseminate the production of researchers and technicians from several agencies, such as state and municipal health departments. These agencies release results from their research studies, programs evaluation, etc. with important contributions that should not be restricted to internal circulation reports, contributing to the advance of debate and of the exchange of ideas about challenging themes, whose roots can be found in the very multi-disciplinary nature of the area. Areas of interest: Since its creation, Saúde e Sociedade has published works from different knowledge areas that are interrelated or that are concerned about public/collective health. In this sense, it encompasses the production of different branches of the human and social sciences and of the emerging environmental science, incorporating scientific and theoretical production and also the one that is specifically related to proposals for intervention and institutional practice. Types of articles: The journal publishes original material of a reflective nature, related to research and knowledge update, in the form of: a) Original research papers; b) Analysis of great themes of interest to the area; c) Theoretical, methodological or technical essays that stimulate a polemic or the treatment of specific themes under different foci; d) Literature update articles; e) Experience reports in the areas of research, teaching and health services provision; f) Presentation of ongoing studies, research or practical experiences, as well as preliminary results; g) Letters to the editor with comments on ideas expressed in articles that have already been published by the journal, aiming to foster a critical reflection on themes in the area; h) Short comments, news or criticisms regarding published books that are of interest to the area; i) Interviews / testimonies of personalities or specialists in the area, aiming at reconstructing the history of public/collective health or providing current information about themes of interest; and j) Proceedings of São Paulo’s public health congresses promoted by APSP, as well as of other scientific events related to the journal’s editorial line. The journal publishes spontaneous contributions that fit its editorial policy, as well as articles requested of specialists. Articles that present an interface between health and the human sciences are especially welcome. Peer review procedures: The Editorial Board (EB) has the collaboration of referees, who are co-participants in the process of assessment of the submitted manuscripts. The referees are designated ad hoc by the EB, selected among specialists known for their technical and scientific competence. Their role is to collaborate in the appraisal of the manuscripts submitted for publication. The referees have the authority to decide on the convenience of manuscripts acceptance, and they may suggest modifications to the authors. Each work is appraised by at least two referees, whose names are not disclosed. Authors’ names are also not disclosed to the referees. Audience: health professionals in general, professors, researchers, and specialists in Public/Collective Health and connected areas. |
Form and preparation of manuscripts

Format A4 paper, 2.5 cm margins, 1.5 space, font Times New Roman 12. Maximum number of pages: 20 (including illustrations and references). Structure Title: concise and informative in the language of the text and in English. Insert as footnote the funding source for the research. Name and address of authors: all should infom their highest academic degree, position, institutional affiliation, complete address with street name and number, city, postal code, state, country, e-mail. Abstract: it should reflect the fundamental aspects of the works, with at least 150 words and at most 250 words, including aims, methods and results. The abstract should precede the text and be in the language of the text and in English. The title should also be in English. Keywords: from 3 to 6, in the language of the text and in English, presented after the abstract. The authors should consult DeCS (Descritores em Ciências da Saúde) and/or Sociological Abstracts. Graphs and tables: Graphs and tables should be presented in the original program (as example, in Excel: in xls), properly identified, in shades of grey or black and white. Images: Images (figures and photos) should be in high resolution (300 dpi), in JPG or TIF, at least 8 cm wide. Citations in the text: they should mention the author last name (small-case letter), year of publication and the page number in case of literal quotation, corresponding to the respective references. In case of more than two authors, the first must be mentioned followed by et al. References The authors are responsible for accuracy of the references cited in the text. They must comply with ABNT NBR 6023 [Brazilian Association of Technical Standards], be presented at the end of the work in alphabetical order by the last name of the first author.
