The results show maximum throughput of 14 Mbps for TCP and 12 Mbps for UDP respectively, proving the proposed solution's viability for the digital inclusion process in public schools. Um estudo da produção acadêmica nacional sobre gestão do conhecimento através da teoria do conhecimento de Habermas http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1807-17752008000200005&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt The purpose of this study is to challenge the academic production on Knowledge Management (KM) recently published by the Brazilian academy. A total of 6,096 published articles in the Proceedings of the National Meeting of Postgraduate Management Programs, named ENANPAD, from 1997 to 2007, were compiled. Habermas' knowledge theory has great relevance for the critical debate on the area of knowledge management (KM) in three types of knowledge: technical, practical and emancipatory. Through the documental research it was possible to identify the absolute predominance of the technical interest as a characteristic of the instrumental reason directed to constant prediction and control in the area of KM. Approximately 75% of these empirical studies did not address the question of power relations and knowledge nor did it address human consciousness emancipation towards a critical reflection of oppressive practices or political and ideological social approaches. Main characteristics of companies using service oriented architecture (soa) and of their operation context http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1807-17752008000200006&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt The aim of this article is to establish the main characteristics of the organizations that have successfully implemented information systems based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Their environmental circumstances have also been studied. To achieve this objective, a SOA bibliographic review has been carried out, encompassing an analysis of 25 real cases in which different SOA applications were successfully implemented. All these cases were published between 2.001 and 2.007. The conclusions of this article can be briefly summarized as follows: SOA is well suited for organizations that rely on important legacy systems, whose performance is hindered by the lack of integration and flexibility of their computer architectures. These organizations therefore need to improve such architectures rather than replace them by new systems; SOA is being used by organizations that need to integrate their systems with those of their supply chain partners; SOA solutions provide support for the use of Web technologies.
Technical service and convergence have been expanding and modifying the use of products and services in the telecommunications sector, generating new markets and expanding their demographic targets through different characteristics of usage. The article developed here presents qualitative research through the netnographic study (e.g. a new structure of qualitative evaluation is used, in which thematic discussions are gathered from websites based on key words used, afterwards passing through a codification and interpretation process in reference to researched factors) based on consumers and their behaviors concerning the iPhone which is a mobile device from Apple with many integrated features and convergence in services. This study evaluated the utilitarian and social / hedonistic factors, finding that the sector market has a new series of services, attracting new groups of users to its context, and resulting in the type of marketing becoming more and more diversified. The social factor (personal image) is highlighted as a primary factor in the selection and device usage, where the actual market and product marketing are increasingly stimulating utility as a social value. Identifying the mobile phone as a utilitarian product based on kind of service and proposed system usage, leads one to believe that the utilitarian market changes its meaning when a certain quantity of integrations are highly hedonistic in their diverse uses, as well as the hedonistic and social values. The authors define the usage of a technological product with many integrated hedonisms as useful social behavior, where the product usefulness becomes social (personal presentation or individual enjoyment).
Brazilian companies that develop software for information systems are aware of the pressing need for continuous improvement in process quality. Towards aligning business processes with software routines implemented in an information system, one should address the institutional practices of software testing. From a socio-technical perspective and with the help of two theoretical models developed in this study to outline and guide the testing activities from a managerial and process-based perspective, in-depth interviews with ten experts in software quality and software testing enabled us to identify and validate analytical categories that mediate the relation between those two models. The result was the development of an organizational structure to support managers, developers and customers in software projects for enterprise information systems. FMEA and PMBOK applied to project risk management http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1807-17752008000200009&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt This paper presents a risk management tool based on two well-known sets of concepts: FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge). After presenting an adherence analysis between the suggested model and PMBOK, we apply the proposed instrument in a real case study: an ERP implementation at the largest Brazilian mail service and logistics organization. The main results show that the proposed model was largely successful because it identified and classified risks. Furthermore, the model helped to document the strategies and action plans needed to respond to these risks. Digital Pakistan: opportunities & challenges http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1807-17752008000200010&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt IT has revolutionized the social and organizational life around the globe. Given the newness of IT as a technology, there is a lot of potential that needs to be explored. It is however, argued that as IT can revolutionize the economic development, by the same coin, although its mismanagement in adoption process can end up in problems or even straight failure of the technology at the business-end. This study was conducted with reference to opportunities and challenges in the IT adoption process in Pakistan. The aim of the study was to point out the barriers that are impeding the country's computerization process in order to provide facts to the policy makers for smooth computerization. The primary data collected through structured questionnaires was analyzed and tested through correlation, regressions analysis and t-test. Out of 10 hypotheses, 3 were accepted while in the rest null hypotheses were not substantiated. Based on primary and secondary data analysis this study has found that all independent bureaucratic, political, education and social and cultural variables are mutually correlated and have significant impact on shaping and reshaping of IT in Pakistan, while the Pakistan IT policy is inconsistent, administrative machinery attitude is negative and non cooperative, procedures are cumbersome and implementation is weak and ineffective, not to mention the lack of IT knowledge on the bureaucratic side. The political environment is instable and law and order is worse which is discouraging the investment. Moreover, physical and legal infrastructure is insufficient and the country is lacking good quality IT professionals. IT organization alignment is another serious issue in Pakistan. However, government incentives and growing interest from the private sector indicate positive attitude towards computerization of the country. Resultados do 5º CONTECSI - Congresso Internacional de Gestão da Tecnologia e Sistemas de Informação http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1807-17752008000200011&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=pt IT has revolutionized the social and organizational life around the globe.
