Orbital rhabdomyosarcoma

RESUMO

Rabdomiosarcoma é O tumor maligno mais freqüente na órbita em crianças⁽⁵⁾. Os autores apresentam quatro casos com idade variando de quatro meses a vinte e três anos, que se apresentaram com proptose rapidamente progressiva, acompanhada de hiperemia e quemose, sem comprometimento visual, inicialmente. Em apenas um caso havia metástase linfática. O tratamento variou de biópsia (dois casos), exenteração (um caso) e exerese tumoral, através de orbitotomia superior (um caso). São feitas considerações a respeito de quimio e radioterapia.

SUMMARY

Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most frequent primary orbital malignancy of childhood. Four cases which ages varied from 4 months to 23 years old are described. The typical clinical picture is one of a child with sudden onset and rapid evolution of exophthalmos unilaterally. Biopsy was performed in two cases, exenteration in 1 case and 1 patient was operated on through a left frontal craniotomy. Linfatic metastasis was observed in one case. Comments concerning Chemotherapy and X-ray therapy are made.
