Clinical evaluation of multifocal soft contact lens for presbiopia

RESUMO

Adaptamos lente de contato gelatinosa multifocal Occasions^® em 47 pacientes présbitas. 36 mulheres e 11 homens. A idade variou de 41 a 52 anos. 66% eram hipermétropes.

O tempo de seguimento médio foi de 8,6 meses.

72,3% dos pacientes obtiveram acuidade visual para longe igual ou melhor que 20/30. 48,9% obtiveram acuidade visual para perto igual a J1.

O índice de sucesso na adaptação da lente foi de 55%.

Vinte e dois pacientes não tinham experiência prévia com lentes de contato. O índice de sucesso no grupo sem e com experiência prévia no uso de lentes de contato não foi significante.

A queixa mais comum em 42,5% dos pacientes foi a de baixa da acuidade visual para longe, especialmente à noite.

O estudo mostra a avaliação clínica da lente Occasion^® para a correção óptica da presbiopia.

SUMMARY

A clinical evaluation of the use of the Occasions^® multifocal soft contact tenses for the correction of presbiopia was conducted on 47 patients, 36 of wich were women and 11 men, with an age span varying from 41 to 52. 66% of the subjects were hiperopia. The average follow-up time was 8,6 months.

72,3% of the patients obtained 20/30 vision or better and 48,9% obtained near-vision acuity of J1. The rate of success in adapting the lens was 55%. 22 of the patients had no previous experience with any kind of contact lenses. The difference in the rates of success did not vary significant between this group and those patients who were previous users of other kinds of contacts lenses. The most frequent complaint, expressed by 42,5% of the patients, was low visual acuity for distance, especcially at night.
