We are now releasing the third issue of the 2017 volume of the IBRACON Structures and Materials Journal (Volume 10 Number 3, June 2017), with ten articles on interesting topics related to structural concrete applications. The first article brings a discussion on a methodology prescribed by the Brazilian Standard ABNT NBR 8522:2008 for determining the stress-strain behavior of cylindrical samples of concrete, presenting considerations on possible enhancements related to the application to concretes with recycled aggregates. The second article is intended to evaluate the influence of different regularization methods for concrete cylindrical specimens in simple compression test. The third article describes an analytical and experimental study on the behavior of shear connectors in composite columns with concrete-filled hollow section. A structural bolt was selected as a shear connector in order to validate analytical expressions provided by ABNT NBR 16239: 2014. A study on the design loads due to mooring and berthing of vessels is presented in the fourth article, regarding the design of port structures. The fifth article describes a research project intended to monitor the carbonation front progress and the pH variation on the surface of the cementitious composite, in compliance with the European standard EN 14630. The structure of voids in the matrix was assessed with the µ-CT imaging technique. The sixth article discusses an evaluation of blast wave overpressures using a computational fluid dynamics software. The seventh article discusses the effect of the failure of a steel roof on the facade concrete columns of a warehouse in fire. A procedure a based on British literature, which considers the horizontal load on the columns is adapted to Brazilian standards and applied to a case study. The next article proposes a simplified methodology for the dynamic analysis of curved road bridges under the effect of a heavy vehicle. In the ninth article, physical nonlinearities and fundamentals of fracture mechanics for quasi-brittle materials are considered for determining the fracture energy and the fracture process zone length, as well as the modulus of elasticity, the tensile strength and the compressive strength, to characterize the mechanical behavior of self-compacting concrete. The last article studies the effect of the variability of the geometric section of square and rectangular columns, with different longitudinal reinforcement rates, in the main reinforcement of two pile caps.

We congratulate the authors for the quality of the published and acknowledge the dedication of the reviewers, fundamental for the consolidation of our Journal.
