SUMMARY

Field trials were conducted in three localities of the São Paulo State to study the effects of two inter-row planting spaces combined or not with mineral fertilizing and incorporation of undecomposed perennial soybean dry matter into the soil, on dry bean yield (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cv. carioca.

From the results obtained it was concluded that decreasing to 30 cm between rows had little effect on dry bean yield, as compared to the use of 40 cm. Confirming previous results, the incorporation of undecomposed perennial soybean dry matter into the soil highly increased yield of common bean. The mineral fertilization also increased the dry bean yield but not in the same magnitude as dry matter incorporation. In the absense of the organic matter the effects of mineral fertilization were more pronounced.
