EDITORIAL

Materials Research - Ibero-american journal of materials. "Judicious and educative"

This issue, number 48, brings the first change in the Editorial Board of Materials Research since its creation 13 years ago. Prof. Edgar D. Zanotto was the Editor-in-chief during these years and his competent and patient work from the very beginning of this journal resulted in impressive records. Materials Research has now achieved outstanding recognition both with Brazilian and foreign authors and certainly one of the most important milestone for such recognition was its indexation in the ISI database in 2008.

As the new Editor-in chief since October 2010, one of the main challenges ahead is to continue the international exposure of Materials Research to permit a steady increase in its impact factor in the next few years. The strategies to achieve such objective have already been suggested by Prof. Zanotto in his last Editorial, and these include the renovation of the editorial board, the raising of the threshold level for accepted articles and the reduction in the review time. I agree and I will be working in all these aspects (among others), keeping in mind the Materials Research's motto "judicious and educative".

Materials Research is also published in electronic format at Scielo (www.scielo.br/mr). Materials Research is indexed by the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE), which includes the Web of Science, ISI Alerting Service and Materials Science Citation Index (MSCI), Chemical Abstracts, World Ceramic Abstracts, International Pool of Glass Abstracts, Scopus and SciELO.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Prof. E.D. Zanotto and the three associated editors, Profs. F. Rizzo, J.C. Bressiani and L.A. Pessan, for inviting me to be ahead the Editorial Board of Materials Research and for the confidence in my work. I was much honored to accept this invitation.

I am already especially grateful to Prof. Bressiani who continues responsible to submit successful proposals to Brazilian funding agency CNPq; and to Luciana Zanotto, Editorial Assistant, for the efficient and essential work in dealing with papers processing, from submission to final editing.

The continuous support from the Brazilian funding agencies CNPq and CAPES, the Department of Materials Engineering, Federal University of São Carlos (DEMa/UFSCar) and the associations, Associação Brasileira de Metalurgia, Materiais e Mineração (ABM), Associação Brasileira de Polímeros (ABPol) and Associação Brasileira de Cerâmica (ABC) are also gratefully acknowledged.
