Clinical practice and research in physical therapy: commitment of the journal Fisioterapia e Pesquisa

The development of a nation depends on the production of knowledge generated and disseminated in all fields of science. In their clinical practice, physical therapists, health professionals, could not provide their patients with the best and most effective therapeutic approaches without the contribution of science, with evidence-based practice.

Brazil is the 15^th country in the world scientific production, according to the SCimago Journal Ranking¹, the same data source that indicates Brazil in eighth place in the world scientific production in the field of physical therapy, sports therapy and rehabilitation. Brazilian scientific production ranks the first position in Latin America and 18^th in the h-index of worldwide citations.

Supporting research and its development in all knowledge-producing institutions is vital for good professional practices in the country. A research that not only finds practices to improve the lives of Brazilian citizens, but also understands that a part of the science developed here will contribute to citizens in all parts of the world, who need health promotion care, disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, can take advantage of the knowledge generated by Brazilian physical therapists. Our Unified Health System has been structured and still needs to be consolidated using high effect and quality research in physical therapy.

The journal Fisioterapia e Pesquisa is a space where researchers and clinicians from Brazil and other countries working in health promotion, disease prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, are able to bring new ideas and concepts based on robust, high quality methodologies, consolidating the professional practice. Therefore, the great challenge is to work so that the planning and execution of studies, experimental or observational, are structured in consolidated guidelines, such as CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA and COSMIN, contributing to bring external evidence to the analyzed results. Physical therapy needs to continue to be highlighted in the field of Health at all levels of activity.

In order to dynamically bring the good-quality information from the authors of the research to the reader, a journal needs to present a group of professionals who donate their time and expertise to analyze all the material they receive, helping to carefully select the content of each publication.
