Agenda de temas para a pesquisa na enfermagem pediátrica

The Revista Gaúcha de Enfermagem, concerned with the dissemination of relevant and updated knowledge that promote the translation of knowledge for the care of newborns, children, adolescents and their family considering current health policies and the relevance of pediatric and neonatal nursing in national and international context, invites the Brazilian Society of Pediatric Nurses (SOBEP) to write this editorial.

SOBEP was created based on the efforts of professors who were members of the Child Care Center (NECAD) in the course of Pediatric Nursing at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). During a Nursing Congress, in July 1996, they started the discussions to establish an association of nurses in pediatric and neonatal specialty, which was finally founded on October 9th, 1996, leaded by professor Dr. Massae Noda Chaud, Ph.D.1Sociedade Brasileira de Enfermeiros Pediatras [Internet]. Since then, there have been 25 years of commitment to the construction of scientific knowledge in that field based on research and on evidence-based practices to promote nursing care to newborns, children and adolescents as well as their family. These results are regularly shared during the biannual congresses organized by SOBEP, in partnership with undergraduate and graduate Nursing courses in public universities in several Brazilian states.

According to Prof. Dr. Semíramis Melani Melo Rocha, founding member of SOBEP and senior researcher, in order to have the research consolidated it is necessary to “comply with standardized criteria and measures, establish generalizations that allow grouping the varieties in common measures, establish empirically confirmed and logically congruent predictions. To follow these criteria, it is necessary to define the object of the field of knowledge, collectively build a thematic specificity, develop the nexus in the production of investigations for the purpose of teaching, research and practical applications.”2Melo SMR. If neonatologists and pediatricians are to become protagonists of care for children and their families, they must be united in society, so they will be stronger to claim better conditions for their practice. This union promotes the development of a culture of care, the consolidation of the field and the education of a new generation of pediatric nurses.

In this regard, the I and II Forum of Researchers were organized during the VII and VIII Brazilian Congress of Pediatric and Neonatal Nursing, directed by professors Dr. Margareth Angelo and Dr. Regina Aparecida Garcia de Lima, respectively, with the participation of nurses from different Brazilian states, such as Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Distrito Federal, Paraíba, Piauí, Bahia, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul. After intense discussion and thinking on the situation of research, the research priority indicators for this specialty were established, such as: “Promotion of children development (childhood; primary and hospital care; nursery and schools); Transition of care (from hospital to home); transition from the pediatric clinic to young adult; Network of care; Chronic conditions (children and adolescents with special healthcare needs, children and adolescents with medical complex conditions, obesity, cancer, nephrology); Children and adolescents in social vulnerability (immigrants, native tribes, quilombola communities); Integrative and complementary practices; Palliative care; Childcare nursing; Mental health (preventing alcoholic beverages and drugs; abuse; suicide; bulling); Technologies of care (effective communication; pain control; breastfeeding; health education; humanization of healthcare; therapeutic toys; support networks); Pediatric and neonatal critical care; Immunization and Safety of pediatric patients.”3Ângelo M, Lima RAG. The participants of the forums concluded that it is essential to create a Research Observatory on Nursing for Children and Adolescents Health, under the responsibility of SOBEP; to share in SOBEP’s Web site the list of research groups on Pediatric and Neonatal Nursing, registered in CNPq’s Directory, the priority indicators of research for Pediatric and Neonatal Nursing and the creation of interest groups linked to SOBEP. Forum indicators were approved in SOBEP meetings in both events.

In view of these results, it is imperative to create the Observatory of Research in Nursing in Children and Adolescents Health for the development of research in this field of knowledge, considering that it will contribute to advances in the qualitative and quantitative diagnosis of project results and the conduction of the issues related to research in that specialty field.

In this editorial, SOBEP is inviting all Brazilian pediatric and neonatologist nurses to participate, developing research that contemplate these topics on the agenda and sharing the results of their research and/or practice in SOBEP congresses and journal.

The Revista Gaúcha de Enfermagem, as a journal committed to the development of nursing and health, thanks its readers, authors and reviewers for their valuable contributions. At the same time, it encourages everyone to submit their manuscripts to the agenda of priorities for research in pediatric and neonatal nursing.
