RESUMO
De uma plantação de chuchu Sechium edule Sw. cultivada no Campo Experimental da Cadeira de Botânica, foram marcadas, ao acaso, 15 plantas, utilizando-se, de cada uma, 3 flores, colhidas no período da manhã, logo após a antese, as quais, em seguida, foram dissecadas, em laboratório, para a obtenção das medidas e do pêso do ovário e do óvulo, quando se utilizou da balança elétrica Draeger. Do pistilo eliminou-se o estilete, ficando apenas o ovário. Foram mantidas, na mesma planta, mais 3 flôres destinadas à formação dos frutos. As medidas e o pêso dos frutos foram tomados quando as sementes mostravam início de germinação. As sementes, uma vez extraídas do fruto, foram medidas e pesadas em balança comum.
Na análise estatística, foram obtidas as correlações dos dados referentes a óvulo, ovário, semente e fruto de Sechium edule Sw., levando-se em conta, para a referida apreciação, o comprimento, a largura e o pêso. Em virtude das dificuldades em se obter o volume do óvulo e do ovário, os autores serviram-se apenas do produto do comprimento pela largura para a determinação das suas correlações.
Para melhor avaliação das correlações, a análise foi conduzida dentro das partes (óvulo, ovário, semente e fruto) e entre as partes estudadas (óvulo e semente, óvulo e ovário ovário e fruto, fruto e semente).

SUMMARY
In a plantation of chayote Sechium edule Sw., established at the experiment field of the Department of Botany, 15 plants were marked at random.
From each plant 3 flowers were collected in the morning, right after their opening. These flowers were dissected in the laboratory, and the ovule and ovary were measured and weighed in a Drager scale. From the pistil was taken the style leaving only the ovary.
Three flowers from each of the 16 plants marked in the field were left to form fruits. The measurement and weighing of the fruits was done when had begun to germinate within the fruits. The seeds were removed from the fruits and measured and weighed on a standard scale.
The statistical analyses of the results has shown correlation between the date obtained from ovule, ovary seed and fruit of Sechium edule Sw., taking into consideration the length, width and weigth values. Due to the difficulties in obtaining the volume of the ovule and the ovary, the authors have used the product of length by width in the determination of the correlations.
In order to obtain a better evaluation of the correlations the statistical analyses was carried out within parts (ovule, ovary seed, and fruit) and between parts (ovule and seed, ovule and ovary, ovary and fruit, fruit and seed) of the plant.
