MUESES-CISNEROS, Jonh Jairo; YANEZ-MUNOZ, Mario Humberto  e  GUAYASAMIN, Juan M.. Una nueva especie de sapo del género Osornophryne (Anura: Bufonidae) de las estribaciones amazónicas de los Andes de Ecuador. Pap. Avulsos Zool. (São Paulo) [online]. 2010, vol.50, n.17, pp. 269-279. ISSN 0031-1049.  http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0031-10492010001700001.

A new distinctive species of Osornophryne is described from the Amazonian slopes of the Ecuadorian Andes at elevations between 2600 and 2800 m. The new species differ from most congeners (except O. guacamayo) by having elongated Toes IV and V, probably as an adaptation for arboreal habits. Osornophryne cofanorum sp. nov. differs from all known Osornophryne by having its skull, vertebrae, and urostlyle coosified with the overlying skin, conferring individuals a squeletic aspect. Males have a unique color pattern of yellow pustules on the tip of the snout, upper eyelid, limbs, and dorsolateral pustular clusters.
