The epidemiologic aspects of 708 cases of acute gonorrhea in patients of both sexes attended at the Health Center of the School of Public Health, University of S. Paulo, S. Paulo, Brazil, from 1974-1978 were described. Statistics were calculated for the following: sex, age, race, marital status, occupation, venereal antecedents, and prior treatment, if any. The incubation period, the time between the initial symptomatology and the patient's procuring medical help, and the characteristics of the source of infection are also given. The methods of diagnosis and therapeutic schedules applied are described, with special attention being given to the proportion of cases associated with trichomoniasis, this detected through examination of fresh discharge material.
