Abstract

CUNHA, Luiz Antônio. The struggle for ethics in primary school: religious or secular?. Cad. Pesqui. [online]. 2009, vol.39, n.137, pp.401-419. ISSN 0100-1574.  https://doi.org/10.1590/S0100-15742009000200005.

This article identifies a conflict between two concepts of ethics in the primary public school curriculum in contemporary Brazil. On one hand, secular ethics, grounded in a transitory political-ideological consensus; on the other hand, religious ethics converging with civic and moral education of a religious nature. This conceptual conflict is explained by the author as the result of a political conflict over autonomy in the educational realm.

Keywords : PUBLIC EDUCATION; ETHICS; CURRICULUM; MORAL EDUCATION.
